Finding aid only for Manuscripts Small Collection 3122. Note from Nancy D. McDonald accompanying a copy of "I'll Take My Stand" acknowledging that Dr. Lowell H. Harrison, a Western Kentucky University (WKU) history professor, had loaned her the book around 1970. She had failed to return it, and decided, after the deaths of Dr. Harrison and his wife, to donate it in their memory to the Kentucky Library at WKU.

During the Great Depression, with conditions grim, entertainment scarce, and educational opportunities limited, many South Dakota farm women relied on reading to fill emotional, social, and informational needs. To read to any degree, these rural women had to overcome multiple obstacles. Extensive reading (whether books, farm journals, or newspapers) was limited to those who had access to publications and could make time to read. The South Dakota Free Library Commission was valuable in circulating reading materials to the state's rural population. Finding aid and bibliography (click on "Additional Files" below) for Manuscripts Collection 367. Correspondence, book and article manuscripts, and research material of Alfred Leland Crabb, a native of Warren County, Kentucky and later professor at George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, Tennessee. The topics of the manuscripts include historical fiction related to Nashville and Bowling Green, biographies of prominent Nashvillians, and articles on all levels of education. Much of the unpublished material is fiction but draws from Crabb's Plum Springs school days and his student experiences at Western Kentucky University.
