Doris Copley Miller was a Huntington, West Virginia poet, newspaperwoman, and local historian. Papers include her work in draft and printed form and correspondence, notably the Jesse Stuart letters. It also contains poetry submissions from other friends and the public as well as working files from her years as religion, education and poetry editor at the Huntington Publishing Company. In addition to her newspaper columns, she also conducted genealogical research.

The majority of this collection consists of the handwritten and typed poetry of Martha Carpenter Miller. Many of the poems underwent multiple edits and rewrites, and her notes and corrections to her poems are included in this collection. The collection spans the years 1898-1962, with the bulk of the material from the 1930s-1950s. Miller wrote extensively, and the collection includes poems and partial poems, ideas, and short verses written on scrap paper, envelopes, paper towels, carboard, postcards, and various other types of paper.
