Young adult literature largely influences the cultures and the lives of young people; often these popular young adult novels become well-known as they are made into movies and are in high demand. These novels are not just for young adults; these texts can be read at any age and have accessible themes that many people can relate to. The third day of Nexus Maximus was spent working on our poster and getting our final ideas together to present the pitch to our audience. We all worked side by side in one of the DEC classrooms working on putting our thoughts into bullet points and developing the graphics for the board. My group member and I went to the poster workshop and got inspired to create the board layout. Learning a second language is difficult. While learning, writing and speaking are treated as though they are two totally separate things. It is evident that people do not speak the same way they write, but that does not mean that speaking and writing should be divided. What if it was possible to create written assignments that would help increase the oral fluency of the learner? This study focuses on bimusical instrumental learning, exploring the perceptions, beliefs and musical practices of students who are simultaneously engaged in learning classical and Irish traditional musics. The literature on bimusicality addresses how it has evolved in various social and educational contexts. This research focuses on the bimusical learning processes and practices of students, aged sixteen to twenty years, as they cross between the different learning modes associated with these two musical traditions in an Irish context. В 1975-1976 гг. группа студентов Факультета Естественных Наук Новосибирского университета (Академгородок) умудрилась создать свой неподцензурный маленький театр «Феномен», который успел просуществовать целый сезон. В этих мемуарах бывших актеров, ныне разбросанных по всему миру, тщательно собранных 35 лет спустя, восстановлена подробная история театра. Центральным событием была (видимо, первая) постановка по поэме Андрея Вознесенского «Авось!» в декабре 1975, задолго до знаменитой рок-оперы.

In 1975-1976, a group of science students of the Novosibirsk University (Russia, Siberia) created a small theatre that managed to avoid the official censorship for the entire season. In this memoir, several former actors, now scattered across the world, reconstruct the detailed history of their “Phenomenon” theatre 35 years later. The central event was the (first) staging (December 1975) of Andrey Voznesensky’s long poem “Avos'!”, long before the famous rock opera appeared.

It's A Wrap: Librarians, Filmmakers And Archival Collections, Monika Antonelli, Daardi Sizemore Mixon

Outreach Librarian, Monika Antonelli and University Archivist Librarian, Daardi Sizemore will show an excerpt of their 50 minute documentary film, Two Weeks in May, which documents student anti-Vietnam War protests on the Minnesota State University, Mankato campus in May 1972. The presenters will share their experiences creating the film including: timeline, funding, personnel, film production, use of archival material, and acquisition of new archival material. The film highlights historical events at the University and in the city of Mankato, and demonstrates the importance of student engagement with social and political issues.

As of 2014, Latinx have accounted for more than half of the United States population. Additionally, the number of Latinx students pursuing higher education is increasing across the country, yet these students have also shown to be the highest in not completing their degrees. Currently, there is much research on the challenges that Latinx first-generation students face in pursuing higher education but limited on the motivation to pursue and stay in college. This research paper informs the audience and presents them with an understanding of Chicanos/Latino education obstacles that are in their way of getting jobs in the medical field. Among these challenges include poverty rates, language barriers and discrimination. This paper discusses the potential opportunities and benefits of Chicano students entering the medical profession. My study assess the current state of Chicano’s in the medical profession and how they can shape their future. This study relies on scholarly sources and peer review journals as the method of analysis from which its conclusions are drawn.

Books and Buddies is a program run by Spread the Word Nevada (StWN) designed to help students who struggle with reading. As part of the program, students are given pre and post tests which measure comprehension, accuracy, and words correct per minute (WCPM).
A data set was provided that included students' scores on the pre and post test, as well as some general demographic information. A Python program was created to perform linear regressions on subsets of the data, measured on the three attributes listed above. The data was also divided into various categories for the sake of the regressions. …

Feeling represented in high school can have an effect on academic performance. Does the literature taught in high schools represent the students who are reading them? By analyzing the supplemental book list (DCABL) approved by Davis County High School and coding the literary works into categories based on ethnicity and gender, these questions were answered:

This research focuses on visual aid accessibility for students with disabilities, students from poverty, and culturally diverse students. Each of these facets are explored, defined, and reflected on in regard to how visual aids could be more accessible for each community of students. Many young adult Haitian immigrant students (YAHIS) move to the United States
hoping to achieve better lives. This growing population faces many challenges when
acculturating to a new country and educational system. Some obstacles include
inadequate family and social support, language barriers, limited education, distinct
cultural values, a lack of academic materials, a shortage of Haitian teachers, and
inadequate educational programs. These psychosocial factors often prevent Haitian
immigrants from succeeding in U.S. schools. This study explored YAHIS' experiences of
acculturation and education as they relate to these psychosocial factors. Qualitative
