Martin Luther's Concept Of Biblical Interpretation In Historical Perspective, Raymond Larry Shelton May 1974

Martin Luther's Concept Of Biblical Interpretation In Historical Perspective, Raymond Larry Shelton

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The purpose of this study is two-fold: to study the general hermeneutical principles and procedures of Martin Luther, and to develop an understanding of the major hermeneutical influences both upon him and by him. Luther certainly did not precipitate the Reformation in a vacuum, but his revolutionary ideas developed as a result of many historical and theological influences upon his intellectual and spiritual development. Furthermore, Luther provided a hermeneutical watershed from which the other Reformers, as well as many contemporary scholars, drank. His influence upon the hermeneutical development since the sixteenth century has been immeasurable. Thinkers ranging from the positions …

Paul Tournier's Philosophy Of Counseling As Developed From His Concept Of Person, Laurence H. Wood May 1974

Paul Tournier's Philosophy Of Counseling As Developed From His Concept Of Person, Laurence H. Wood

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

There exists today an increasing interest in the possibility of integrating the fields of psychology and theology for the benefit of man. Such work has already been undertaken by Dr. Paul Tournier. The concepts that Paul Tournier has developed are of particular interest to the Christian community in its inter-personal relationships. While Tournier's concepts are applicable to a broader spectrum, they are nevertheless of particular significance for the Christian community. An understanding of certain of Tournier's concepts and their implementation into one's ministry in the general area of counseling can be of inestimable practical value.

An Investigation Into The Relationship Between Figurative Language And Biblical Typology, Thomas Mohr May 1974

An Investigation Into The Relationship Between Figurative Language And Biblical Typology, Thomas Mohr

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Excerpt: "Because of those who have taken an extreme position concerning typology, the subject has been either distorted or discarded. In both cases it has been very unfortunate. If it can be established that typology is a valid tool to use in studying the Bible, then "a great door and effectual is opened" to the Bible student . The problem is, has been, and always will be : " there are many adversaries ." The preliminary assumption of the writer was that typology is not unscriptual or dangerous ; rather the misuser of typology is the one that needs to …

The Concept Of Cross-Cultural Identification, Daniel Roy Brewster May 1974

The Concept Of Cross-Cultural Identification, Daniel Roy Brewster

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The Apostle Paul was perhaps the greatest missionary who ever lived, and perhaps the greatest teacher, aside from our Lord, of the necessity and the means of identifying oneself to the needs of the Diverse peoples of the non-Christian world in order that he might effectively communicate the "Good News" of God's redemption plan. In his first letter to the fledgling church at Corinth, he succinctly and accurately states what is at once the primary manner, the primary goal and the primary obstacle to that identification. "... I have become all things to all men that I may by all …

A Survey Of The Background And Development Of Aldersgate Graded Curriculum And Its Use In Selected Wesleyan Churches, James Frederick Harbour May 1974

A Survey Of The Background And Development Of Aldersgate Graded Curriculum And Its Use In Selected Wesleyan Churches, James Frederick Harbour

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Christian education was given an impetus by the Protestant Reformation by means of men such as Luther, Melanchthon, Zwingli, Calvin, and John Knox. These men established the principle that every person should be able to read the Scriptures in his own language. A believer's reading ability would reinforce his salvation and spiritual growth.

A Program Of Christian Education For The Evangelical Methodist Church, Joan W. Dean May 1974

A Program Of Christian Education For The Evangelical Methodist Church, Joan W. Dean

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The Evangelical Methodist Church has demonstrated from its inception in 1946 an awareness that the education of her "children'' was important. Through affiliation with selected institutions of higher education, through a continuing interest in quality Sunday School curriculum, and an awareness of the important role of the Christian home the denomination has evidenced concern for a qualifying Christian Education ministry. Her purpose for existence as a denomination would be defeated if she fails to teach the basic principles concerning man's relationship with God. It is time for the Evangelical Methodist Church to take vigorous steps to develop her potential in …

A Study For The Purpose Of Finding Suitable Affiliation For Trinity Christian Church, Dennis Deardorff May 1974

A Study For The Purpose Of Finding Suitable Affiliation For Trinity Christian Church, Dennis Deardorff

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Protestantism today is known for its numerous and varied sects, denominations, and movements. A survey of the yellow pages of a metropolitan phone book will yield hundreds of names of local organizations. Some of these are part of larger denominations while others function as independent bodies. They vary in size, government, doctrine, ethics and types of members. The diversity and multiplicity of these churches is the result of many years of change, struggle, and fragmentation since the Reformation. Most can point to specific leaders as founders of their organizations. They may also focus on specific issues or doctrines as the …
