The object of this study is to investigate the mission motif in the life and thought of the people of Israel in three different periods in the nation's history, namely, the early monarchical period, the exilic period, and the post-exilic period. The inquiry seeks to determine whether or not Israel had a mission to the gentile nations during the Old Testament period, the nature of that mission, and the ways in which that mission was to be carried out.
