The Understandings Of Pornography In The Behavioral Sciences And The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod, Paul Metzler May 1970

The Understandings Of Pornography In The Behavioral Sciences And The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod, Paul Metzler

Master of Divinity Thesis

Some further comments about the intent of this study should help clarify what I am attempting to do. I do not plan to develop a universally valid definition of pornography. My research has led me to see definition itself as one of the issues: In Chapter II where I have presented my findings from the behavorial sciences, I have indicated the attempts of various studies to develop just such a definition. Their variety and differing emphases show that one of the difficulties of dealing adequately with the phenomenon of pornography is determining what qualifies or does not qualify for that …

The Doctrine Of Man In William Golding's Lord Of The Flies, Howard W. Kramer May 1970

The Doctrine Of Man In William Golding's Lord Of The Flies, Howard W. Kramer

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

Since Lord of the Flies is so frequently found on the required reading list of English literature courses, it is to be expected that the theme of the novel is the subject of frequent discussions in literary circles and perhaps even in gatherings of much less sophisticated readers. One would, then, be inclined to examine seriously the theme of a novel as widely read and discussed as is Lord of the Flies. Since the theme of the novel involves so fundamental a concept as the doctrine of man, one may surmise that the average reader finds an unusual attraction in …

The Lectionary And The Church Year: A Study Of The Historic Lectionary Of The Western Church Leading To A Revised Gospel Lectionary, Karl Cron May 1970

The Lectionary And The Church Year: A Study Of The Historic Lectionary Of The Western Church Leading To A Revised Gospel Lectionary, Karl Cron

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The goal of the study is to provide a modest starting point for a revised lectionary with understandable, meaningful and relevant lessons that relate to one another and that are organized in a church year pattern which is helpful to the worshiper's devotion. Of course, the lectionary itself cannot overcome the human factors of inattentiveness, lethargy, and disinterest. More than a lectionary is required to overcome these factors.

The Correlation Of Selected Malady Concepts Of Psychotherapy With Their Theological Counterparts, As Evidenced In The Pastoral Counseling Literature Of 1945-1957, Robert E. Rediehs May 1970

The Correlation Of Selected Malady Concepts Of Psychotherapy With Their Theological Counterparts, As Evidenced In The Pastoral Counseling Literature Of 1945-1957, Robert E. Rediehs

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The basic concern of this paper is whether or not psychotherapy and theology have anything to do with each other. There is much feeling in Christian tradition about the extent to which extra-theological studies relate to theology. The present paper will not deal with the efforts which have been made to point out a dissimilarity between these fields. Rather it hypothesizes that psychotherapy and theology are, in some sense, related, and that this can be demonstrated in the terminology and meanings of pastoral counseling.

A Sociological Analysis Of The Communiunity Immediately Surrounding Our Savior Lutheran Church, St. Louis, Missouri, Kenneth Haupt

Master of Divinity Thesis

The scope of this study must include three parts. Firstly, a careful analysis of the community surrounding Our Savior Lutheran Church must be made. Such an analysis ought to delineate the geographical information as well as the needs and the resources of the community. Secondly, an analysis of Our Savior Congregation is important, dealing mainly with the congregation’s understanding of, its willingness to, and its ability for ministry in this community. Thirdly, a study of theological education is necessary in order to ascertain curricular models which are capable of fulfilling functions commensurate to the objectives of Concordia Seminary as well …

The Big Bopper Died For Your Sins: A Study Of The Function Of Rock As A Form Of Religious Expression Inn The World Of Youth, John Metzig Mar 1970

The Big Bopper Died For Your Sins: A Study Of The Function Of Rock As A Form Of Religious Expression Inn The World Of Youth, John Metzig

Master of Divinity Thesis

The body of the paper itself was written from the point of view of a person who has one foot planted in the mainstream of the movement of the rock culture, while remaining enough apart from the rock scene to keep a certain amount of objectivity. This objectivity includes discussing the various historical and sociological factors which have contributed to the shaping of the present situation. Often times the discussion of those factors will be written in the language or point of view of a member of the present rock culture. It is the hope of the author that this …

An Examination Of The Lochhaas Theses As Steps Towards Discovering How One Deals With The Lodge Problem Evangelically, David Fielding Mar 1970

An Examination Of The Lochhaas Theses As Steps Towards Discovering How One Deals With The Lodge Problem Evangelically, David Fielding

Bachelor of Divinity

The Missouri Synod of the Lutheran Church in America (LCMS) has had a long history of opposition against the lodge. This opposition still exists today in the constitution of the synod and by select individuals within the synod who urge those in authority) to "hold the line". The history of opposition to the lodge has been called the "lodge problem" or the "lodge question". Though the question should still be raised, it is also true that some of the lodges have changed their rituals and teachings so that it is no longer accurate to speak in a general way about …

The American Military Chaplaincy And Its Relationship To The Issue Of Church And State, Kenneth W. Henschel Feb 1970

The American Military Chaplaincy And Its Relationship To The Issue Of Church And State, Kenneth W. Henschel

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The relationship of church and state in the United States is still a live issue today. The tension which exists within this relationship was again brought to public attention through the recent hearings of the cases before the United States Supreme Court regarding Bible reading and prayer in the public schools. A television special on churches and taxation also raised anew an issue which is increasing in tension. In addition, a prime focus of this tension has been centered in the discussion of the church's role over against the Vietnam War.

One particular facet of the debate on the relationship …
