This is the first issue of a journal produced by Black students at the College of the Holy Cross in order to address the need for a better understanding of the "Black Aesthetic." The works included in this issue use creative writing and art to express reflections on being Black, race, racism, racial relations, history, politics, religion and social issues in the United States.

This inaugural issue includes letters of endorsement from Rev. John E. Brooks, S.J, (President of the College) and Gilbert L. Taylor (Director of Human Relations at the College).

The Existential Elements In The Poetry Of Wallace Stevens, Patsy Satterly

This study will deal with such existential elements in Stevens' poetry. The poetry will be treated in three main divisions: the early period of Harmonium (1923); the middle period of The Man With the Blue Guitar (1936), Ideas of Order (1937), and Parts of a World (1942); and the late period of Transport to Summer (1947) and Auroras of Autumn (1950). Two introductory chapters will precede the actual study of the poetry; one is a chapter on existentialism as it is expounded by Sartre and Camus, and the other is a description of the existential bias in Stevens' mind, in …

This student-run weekly newspaper was known simply as R.I.S.D., or RISD Paper. The RISD Paper ran through the late 1960s and into the 1970s. The issue of November 30, 1970 had a short article about the RISD Museum Committee updates. Birth control information from ARS International, student activism in Washington, DC, a calendar of events for RISD students, and letters were also included.

This student-run weekly newspaper was known simply as R.I.S.D., or RISD Paper. The RISD Paper ran through the late 1960s and into the 1970s. The issue of November 26, 1970 included an interview with Gordy Allen, head of RISD student affairs. There also were articles about Black art with Barry Gaither and RISD student board and constitution and the Strike Committee. Poems, photos of musicans at the RISD farm, and a calendar of events for RISD students were also included.

The issue of November 12, 1970 included an article about World Game and Conceptual Thinking and an article about Zen painting and calligraphy at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. There were photos from the New Dean String Band at the RISD Farm and comics, poems and letters to the editor. Also included was a small article about RISD student activism.
