The Virtue Of Profit (California), C. William Pollard
C. William Pollard Papers
This particular version of the "Virtue of Profit" speech was prepared by Pollard for a meeting with a Chinese business associate. The chaos that was the Cultural Revolution gave way to steadfast economic development that turned China into a key player in the world economy.
The Korean-American Church In The 21st Century; A How To Model For Church Growth, Dongsik Kim
The Korean-American Church In The 21st Century; A How To Model For Church Growth, Dongsik Kim
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Although Korean-Americans have high religious affiliation, they have a low religious commitment. Many Korean-Americans think of the church as a place for relaxation and social connection rather than a place of worship. With the distorted perspective towards the church, the Korean-American churches experience split and division; the church's growth stagnates or declines, and the church is no longer healthy. This project provides suggestions for becoming a healthy church through a case study of the Lord-Jesus Korean Church (LJKC) in Richmond, VA. Based on questionnaires, the project evaluates the effectiveness of the ministries of the LJKC and suggests recommendations for becoming …

Those who care about the future of the church have a vested interest in both the quantity and the quality of candidates preparing for ministry in this generation and into the next. And it is easy to see those pastors as the product of a series of independent and individualized decisions. A college student, for example, meets with her pastor to discuss her future. Or an engineer sits at the kitchen table with his wife asking if they have the money for him to quit his job and head off to seminary. The future of ministry does indeed depend on …

In seeking to discern God's will for their lives, top-echelon Christian leaders would do well to consider the biblical ideals embedded in the concept of kingship. The paper explores the biblical characteristics of the ideal king with the goal of identifying lessons for contemporary top-echelon leaders. It also reviews the connection between creation and kingship and the biblical concept of the Kingship of God, biblical guidance available in the selection, anointing and annual renewal of the king, and the duties and role of the king. Popular Representations Of Leadership: Heroes And Superheroes In Times Of Crisis, Luis Gomez Romero
Popular Representations Of Leadership: Heroes And Superheroes In Times Of Crisis, Luis Gomez Romero
Faculty of Law, Humanities and the Arts - Papers (Archive)
The importance of popular culture in the study of politics–especially in the creation, development and propagation of political ideas–has scarcely been examined in any depth by students of politics. The cultural representations of political institutions and processes apparently escape the defined fields of the theoretical disciplines concerned with political phenomena. Political philosophy, particularly in the Englishspeaking world, has been largely committed in the last four decades to provide rationally compelling arguments aimed to justify the principles of political morality, detaching itself from concrete political experience and privileging instead an abstract, universal and ahistorical normative account of the ideal polity. Political …

Validation Of The Differentiated Transformational Leadership Inventory As A Measure Of Coach Leadership In Youth Soccer, Stewart A. Vella, Lindsay G. Oades, Trevor P. Crowe
Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences - Papers (Archive)
This paper describes the validation of The Differentiated Transformational Leadership Inventory (DTLI) within a participation youth sports context. Three hundred and twenty-two athletes aged between 11 and 18 years completed the DTLI. Using a confirmatory factor analysis, the DTLI yielded an underlying factor structure that fell short of cut-off criteria for adjudging model fit. Subsequent theory-driven changes were made to the DTLI by removing the 'high performance expectations' subscale. Further data-driven changes were also made on the basis of high item-factor cross-loadings. The revised version of the DTLI was subjected to confirmatory factor analysis and proved to be a good …
Seeking God’S Will: The Experience Of Information Seeking By Leaders Of A Church In Transition, David H. Michels
Seeking God’S Will: The Experience Of Information Seeking By Leaders Of A Church In Transition, David H. Michels
Articles, Book Chapters, & Popular Press
What is the experience of information seeking (IS) by leaders of a church in transition, as they seek the will of God for their church? In this ethnographic pilot study, I begin to create a picture of leaders’ information seeking, first for personal faith building and then for corporate decision making, and I consider the impact of new technologies on these processes. Religious IS did not differ significantly from other everyday-life information seeking (ELIS) experiences, except when subjects were acting in leadership roles. Prominent themes were theological diversity and prayer.
Women's Leadership In Philanthropy: An Analysis Of Six Giving Circles, Deborah A. Witte
Women's Leadership In Philanthropy: An Analysis Of Six Giving Circles, Deborah A. Witte
Antioch University Full-Text Dissertations & Theses
Women have played an essential role in the development of philanthropy in the United States. While their giving behavior and financial contributions have been studied extensively, other aspects of their philanthropy-namely leadership-have not been documented as completely. The giving circle-a new trend within philanthropy where groups of individuals pool their money, and through educating themselves about issues in their community, decide together where to award their funds-provides an ideal case for this study, as the majority of giving circle members are women. In order to gain a better understanding of women's leadership, focus groups were conducted with more than 35 …
"What's A Nice Girl Like You Doing With A Nobel Prize?" Elizabeth Blackburn, "Australia's First Women Nobel Laureate And Women's Scientific Leadership, Jane L. Carey
Faculty of Law, Humanities and the Arts - Papers (Archive)
In 2009 Elizabeth Blackburn (along with two of her American colleagues) won the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, confirming her position as a global scientific leader. She was immediately celebrated as Australia’s first woman Nobel laureate. However, although 2009 was a ‘bumper’ year for women Nobel laureates, with five winners in total, the media coverage soon became highly negative and discouraging. Much discussion focused not on Blackburn’s scientific work but on her gender – the difficulties it was assumed she must have faced individually as a woman scientist, and her wider leadership role in encouraging and supporting other women …
