Reservation About Reservations: A Political History Of Congress’ Regulation Of The Native Tribes Of Oklahoma, Zachary Tyler Johnson
Reservation About Reservations: A Political History Of Congress’ Regulation Of The Native Tribes Of Oklahoma, Zachary Tyler Johnson
History Capstone Research Papers
Congress did not correctly disestablish the Native American reservations in what is now the State of Oklahoma at the time of its rise to statehood according to the test created by the Supreme Court in Solem v. Bartlett (1984). This test requires that the Legislature include specific cession language in its enactments. This paper will examine the laws on the Oklahoma reservations. This examination will be used to argue that although Congress’ management of the First Nation peoples living in these enclaves may appear destructive by modern interpretations, none of the legislation formally terminated this area’s reservation status according to …

The English Language: How the French Normans Changed its Trajectory through the Onset of the Battle of Hastings
Abstract
This capstone discusses the convoluted connection between Denmark, England, and Normandy and identifies how this complicated shared history led to William the Conqueror’s infiltration of England, via Normandy. Subsequently, the Battle of Hastings promptly follows, ultimately ushering in a new era within Anglo-Saxon England. This pivotal event established the prevalence of the French language within the English language in a variety of capacities, especially pertaining to sub-sections within culture. These various sections within culture are related to the military, law, government, …

Project Mkultra And The Search For Mind Control: Clandestine Use Of Lsd Within The Cia, Tani M. Linville
History Capstone Research Papers
From 1953 to 1964 the CIA engaged in various clandestine operations to manipulate the human mind. With the relatively new discovery of LSD, scientists around the world became interested in its ability to be used for both defensive and offensive measures in the interest of national security. Minimal documentation was kept on the extent of the research conducted on the manipulation of the human mind. The Intelligence agents, physicians, researchers, and other involved in the MKULTRA experiments were in direct violation of ethical codes previously set in place prior to the program, including the Hippocratic Oath, U.S. Constitution, Nuremberg Code, …

President Kennedy And The Escalation Of The Vietnam War, Kenneth L. Sterner
History Capstone Research Papers
The purpose of this paper is to determine if President Kennedy had a large impact on President Johnson in escalating the Vietnam War. American aid, politically, militarily, and economically in Vietnam, played a large role in forcing Johnson to escalate the war. This paper examines the political impact President Kennedy created, the military situation in Vietnam, and the economics of Diem's removal.

New Start From Old Beginnings?, Michaela Ruhlmann
History Capstone Research Papers
This paper examines the extent of which START I and New START achieved effective balance of power between the United States and Russia. It addresses the purpose, agreements and the impact of START I and New Start on the effectiveness in accomplishing global balance of power. This paper argues that while the original START I accomplished a global balance of power by equalizing reduction of nuclear arsenals in both countries, but that New START did not accomplish a long-term global balance of power. To best demonstrate this, “New START from Old Beginnings?” covers START I’s historical context, examine its actual …
Collaboration Is Key: A Study On The Religious Identity Of Catholic And Southern Baptist Hospitals, Benjamin German
Collaboration Is Key: A Study On The Religious Identity Of Catholic And Southern Baptist Hospitals, Benjamin German
History Capstone Research Papers
Since its inception, the Christian church has emphasized physical healing alongside spiritual healing. The Roman Catholics and Southern Baptists established their first hospitals in America in the mid-nineteenth and late-nineteenth centuries respectively. While a number of hospitals bear the names Catholic or Baptist, they do not all necessarily possess the same religious character they once did. This research paper compares and contrasts the hospital ministries of the two Christian sub-groups. It concludes that Roman Catholic hospitals have stayed more true to their religious identity than Southern Baptist hospitals. Since the 1980s, hospitals have formed healthcare networks in mass, a trend …

History Capstone Research Papers
This paper examines Noah Webster's impact on the United States during the early 19th century through his linguistic work. His standardization of American English spelling and pronunciation, as well as his addition of Americanisms to The American Dictionary of the English Language, created a national culture that united the states at a time when their differences threatened to tear them apart.
