Guides to Manuscript Collections
This collection is principally composed of a diary written by Robert A. Grant while he was a student at Marshall between 1933 and 1938. The diary covers Grant’s life as a student and his work in the Anderson-Newcomb department store. Additional materials include copies of the Parthenon published after the 1970 Marshall plane crash, a copy of the Greenline with Grant’s name in it as a donor, two algebra textbooks from 1903 and 1904, and newspaper clippings about an October 1970 riot in Huntington.

This collection is composed of letters written daily, sometimes multiple times a day, from Beecher Ray Burnett to his wife Anita between September 3 and October 5, 1943 from Burnett while he was being trained as part of the 47th Army Air Force Training Detachment in Huntington and other cities in West Virginia. Topics mentioned in the letter include what he was learning and doing in training, social events, and personal matters.

The Cam Henderson papers consist primarily of papers related to his career as a football and basketball coach at Muskingum, Davis and Elkins and Marshall Colleges. A significant part of the collection relates to his wife Roxie Bell Henderson and includes many personal and family items as well as material related to her career as a public school teacher. Included also is material gathered by Dr. Sam Clagg for his biography of Henderson and afterward. This collection consists primarily of newspaper clippings about Robert Lloyd Beck and his wife Ruth Myers Beck while they were living in Huntington, West Virginia. Newspaper clippings about Robert relate to his work as a philosophy professor while newspaper clippings about Ruth primarily relate to her work in the Faculty Wives Club. This collection consists of a single letter to Miss Bernice Wright, mathematics professor at Marshall College, from a student expressing his appreciation of her skill and patience and wishing that Marshall was a university so that he could continue to study there. This letter was found in Edwin S. Crawley's " Analytic geometry", rev. ed. Crofts, 1929. The name, "Hackney" was on the front endpaper.
