This paper analyzes the connection between the Ancient Mother Goddess and the modern EcoFeminist movement by illustrating similar traits and symbolic images that they share. I first examine how far back the mother figure was praised in human history, and how images of the feminine body connect to the nurturing aspect of our Earth in Paleolithic times. I then analyze the Mother Goddess figure through three ancient religious Goddesses; the Hindu Goddess Devi and all of her embodiments, the Ancient Egyptian Goddess Isis, and the mother goddess Gaia in Greek mythology.

The Church’s response to LGB people has evolved quickly in the past century. Gay visibility and understandings of sexuality as it is known today only began to emerge in the mid- to-late 20th century. Within that time, responses to constantly evolving science and shifting understanding of LGB people invoked a variety of religious and political responses to the issue of legal protections of gay people. A crucial theme throughout Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee is the struggle between individual morality and collective consciousness, as exemplified by black and white relations in the American South. In this thesis, I explore the biblical concept of a “watchman” as referenced in the novel’s title and what conclusions can be drawn from delving into the literary and biblical contexts of this allusion. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the compatibility of Christian theology and a modern therapeutic process informed by secularism. The purpose of this research is to demonstrate that the conceptualization of an active God in the therapeutic process is essential for counselors and clients who adhere to the Christian faith.
