Despite living in South America, Borges rarely turned his attention to the original inhabitants of his land. In the few pieces that address indigenous people and their epistemologies, he, like most writers of European descent, does so from the colonizers’ perspective. Yet he is perceptive enough to acknowledge that his perspective is not the only one, and that native people’s ways of seeing the world may be equally complex and sophisticated as his own.
