Following the Civil War there was much interest among Maine farmers in breeding trotting horses. One of these breeders was Greenville J. Shaw, who purchased 640 acres of farm land in Stetson, Maine, for his broodmares and young stock. he called this farm "Cream Brook Farm." This article traces the history of the farm, summarizing accounts from articles in The Maine Horse Breeders Monthly, Maine Farmer, Dexter Gazette, Somerset Reporter, Home Farm, and Homestead published between 1879 and 1903.
