Ten archeological sites in Bandera County, Texas, will be affected by the completion of R.M. 337, a proposed 10.2-mile extension connecting the existing R.M. 337 (formerly F.M. 1336) with R.M.187 south of Vanderpool. These sites were discovered in February, 1978, during an archeological reconnaissance of the right-of-way by Frank Weir and Daymond Crawford of the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation and Robert Mallouf and John Clark of the Texas Historical Commission. The archeological testing at sites 41PN3 and 41PN4 reported herein, came about as ,ill result of discovery of these sites during an archeological reconnaissance of the proposed right of way on F.M. 3359 near Deadwood in Panola County, Texas (Figure 1). Reporting and preliminary testing of these sites was completed so as to be i.n compliance with Public Law 89-670(The Department of Transportation Act of 1966), 36 CFR 60, 36 CFR 8·00, and the Memorandum of Understanding between the State. Department of Highways and Public Transportation and the Texas Antiquities Committee, dated January 5, 1972.

During a routine archaeological reconnaissance of the proposed right- of-way of F.M. 3298 a site was indicated between centerline stations 143 + 00 and 145 + 00 on the basis of the recovery of a dart point and a dart point fragment. Consequently, a preliminary test was conducted during the week beginning May 1, 1978, to determine the nature of the site and to formulate, if necessary, a program of excavation and mitigation . The discovery and preliminary test investigations were made i n accordance with Title 36, C.F.R., Part 800 Procedures for the Protection of Historic and Cultural Properties.

This report will present the results of an archaeological survey conducted in Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Texas, during the summer of 1976. The specific purpose of this survey was to compile an inventory of prehistoric resources in that portion of the Park known as the High Country, the only portion of the Park which had not yet been subjected to a comprehensive, on-the-ground archaeological reconnaissance. Data gathered during the survey were analyzed and interpreted in the light of existing cultural frameworks for the Park and surrounding region. In the spring of 1977 the Center for Archaeological Research was requested by Ronald Darner, Director of the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department, to investigate and record sections of the old acequias, or irrigation ditches which were involved in renovation and landscaping projects in city parks. The purpose of this report is to present the information gained in this endeavor ln lasting and usable form for the future benefit of historians and archaeologists working with these unique and interesting structures.
