Die Gestalt Der Frau In Ausgewählten Dramen George Kaisers, Wolfgang H. Justen May 1970

Die Gestalt Der Frau In Ausgewählten Dramen George Kaisers, Wolfgang H. Justen

Dissertations and Theses

This thesis' focuses on the characterization of the "woman", who occupies a very prominent part in the dramatic works of playwright Georg Kaiser (1878-1945). The purpose of this study is twofold: the first part re-examines the early plays Die judische Witwe (1910) and Europa (1910) and basically re-affirms the findings that Judith and Europa are "elementary beings", driven by only one force, their overpowering sexual desire. It can be pointed out, though, that already in these plays Kaiser turned toward mythology - which includes Old and New Testament for him - in the choice of his protagonists.

The examination of …

Die Gestaltung Des Raumes In Den Dramen Ernst Barlachs, Dieter Helmut Engelhardt May 1970

Die Gestaltung Des Raumes In Den Dramen Ernst Barlachs, Dieter Helmut Engelhardt

Dissertations and Theses

The importance of spatial spheres in dramas has only slightly been researched. On the whole this problem has been considered relatively unimportant. Ever since the publication of Lessing's Laokoon the distinguishing characteristic of a literary work was considered to be the element of "time", in contradistinction to works of the visual arts (painting and sculpture) where "space" was primary. It will be demonstrated that in Barlach's plays space assumes considerable importance. Although the dramatic concern is primarily expressed through successive dialogues and monologues, Barlach's language nevertheless can imaginatively create spatial spheres different from those visible on stage. Both spheres of …

Cubist Painting Related To The Culture From Which It Came And Its Validity Today In The High School Curriculum, Virginia K. Fenton May 1970

Cubist Painting Related To The Culture From Which It Came And Its Validity Today In The High School Curriculum, Virginia K. Fenton

Dissertations and Theses

Cubism has often been referred to as "a dead art." It is the objective of this thesis to present evidence gained through working with high school art students that the study of Cubism, at the secondary level, can result in greater creativity and a genuine appreciation of the abstract. In addition to the study of Cubist artists and their techniques, a correlation was made between art of the early 1900's and other areas such as Social Science, Music and Literature of this time. By this method, the students were given a broader insight into the motives of the Cubist artists. …

Greece: The Colonels' Puritan Revolution, Nikolaos E. Mpras May 1970

Greece: The Colonels' Puritan Revolution, Nikolaos E. Mpras

Dissertations and Theses

The purpose of this paper is to examine the present political situation in Greece and the events that took place from the time that Papandreou's Center Union Party came to power in 1964 to the military coup d'etat in 1967. However, in order to develop a picture of what led to the coup of 1967, it is necessary not only to discuss specific events prior and during the coup, but also to present a brief background of modern Greek politics since Greece's independence from the Turks in 1821.

The paper is divided into five chapters: the first chapter briefly summarizes …

Die Idee Der Neuen Welt In Fritz Von Unruhs Trilogie Ein Geschlecht, Paul Otto Soumokil

Fritz: von Unruh, who lives at Oranienhof in Diez an der Lahn, was born in 1885. The 1958 Good Offices Mission And Its Implications For French-American Relations Under The Fourth Republic, Lorin James Anderson Jan 1970

The 1958 Good Offices Mission And Its Implications For French-American Relations Under The Fourth Republic, Lorin James Anderson

Dissertations and Theses

In both a general review of Franco-American relations and in a more specific discussion of the Anglo-American good offices mission to France in 1958, this thesis has attempted first, to analyze the foreign policies of France and the United States which developed from the impact of the Second World War and, second, to describe Franco-American discord as primarily a collision of foreign policy goals--or, even farther, as a basic collision in the national attitudes that shaped those goals--rather than as a result either of Communist harassment or of the clash of personalities.
