Since the birth of the written word, and earlier with the inclusion of the history of oral tradition, literature has been greatly preoccupied with the theme of Good & Evil and the consequence of man's rejection of good, his guilt. The playwrights of ancient Greece, Elizabethan England, and Renaissance Europe have been just a few links in the long chain which has kept alive this thematic tradition.
