A Model Of Library Services Proposed For Public Libraries Serving The Arab-American Communities, Majed J. Khader Phd

Librarian Research

The primary objective of this research project was to form a model for the creation and implementation of library and information services for the Arab-American community in the United States.

The proposed model was based on a comprehensive review of the literature on model building, library and information services for American ethnic groups, and Arab-Americans. The proposed model included three main phases. Phase one dealt with assuring library administration commitment. Phase two discussed the preparation and the execution of the model elements. Phase three offered guidelines on evaluation and re-implementing the proposed model.

Communicating the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the principal existential task of the Church. "Communicating" and "the Gospel" both are terms loaded with philosophical underpinnings and practical implications that constantly challenge the church to examine its established patterns of ministry and behavior, as well as its priorities and budgets.

This collection is composed of a scrapbook created by the Huntington, West Virginia Junior Chamber of Commerce, or Jaycees, in application for the Geissenbier Award, an award of excellence distributed for exemplary community works. The scrapbook features the work conducted by the Jaycees on behalf of the war effort during World War II in Huntington, and includes photographs, newspaper clippings, correspondence, ephemera, and some hand drawn illustrations for the various areas in which the Jaycees did work.

This collection consists of materials related to the life of the Adams family in World War II, including ration books for sugar, mileage, and other standard ration books, as well as ration supplement applications for Frances B. Adams’s work with the YWCA providing social services. Also included is a certificate and newspaper clipping about Frances’s work and a clipping from a newspaper with a form for a declaration of goods to apply for a subsequent ration book.

This collection consists predominantly of slides and photographs taken on Herman P. Dean’s travels and limited papers consisting of travel brochures, firearm and book catalogs, personal notes and ephemera, and correspondence related to Dean’s book purchasing habits.

The photographs are the bulk of the collection and consist of 200-300 slides that were unable to examined extensively and more than 200 developed photographs from various trips and events. The collection is divided into two series: Series I: Special Commission on Boundaries, Tacna-Arica Arbitration Papers and Series II: Morrow Family Personal Papers.

The first series pertains the 1922 request by Chile and Peru for the United States to arbitrate their land dispute over the provinces of Tacna, Arica, and Tarata. Jay Johnson Morrow was the chairman of the special commission arbitrating the boundary dispute between Chile and Peru from 1925 to 1929. Collection materials include historic maps and treaties, copies of geological surveys, field reports, annexation documents, and reports of arbitration meetings. This series includes materials in Spanish.
