An Investigation Of The Doctrine Of Divine Providence In Relation To Man As Viewed By John Wesley, J. Ronald Herzog May 1965

An Investigation Of The Doctrine Of Divine Providence In Relation To Man As Viewed By John Wesley, J. Ronald Herzog

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

"There is scarcely any doctrine in the whole compass of 1 revelation, which is of deeper importance than this." Such is John Wesley's comment concerning the providence of God. Wesley, himself, had a keen interest in providence. In his Journals alone he makes no less than forty-eight direct references to providence along with many inferences. These, along with many more references in his other writings, show a lifelong concern with the subject.

The purpose of this study was to make a thorough investigation of Wesley• s doctrine of divine providence in relation to man. Then, on the basis of this …

History Of The Oregon Conference Of The Free Methodist Church, Howard Sanders

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The religious history of the Pacific Northwest is important to the development and growth of this part of the United States. The first church men came with the purpose of evangelizing the Indians who lived in the region. These men, such as Jason Lee, Father Blanchet, Father Desmet, Marcus Whitman, and Dr. Elijah White, were the first to migrate to this country with the exception of a small handful who were fur traders or employees of the Hudson Bay Company. Although the primary purpose of these "missionaries" failed, they did pioneer the way for others to come. With each new …

An Inquiry Into The Nature And Worship Of God With Special Reference To The Second Commandment, Virgil Dunber

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The problem considered in this study has been: Does the Bible permit the use of man--made images of God, or images that man might intend to represent God? This is related to the problem: Can an image created by man help man to know God?

The word image, in this study, has been selected to cover the wide subject of visual art work. Both statues and pictures are included, because no essential difference between statues and pictures has been found.

It was the task of this investigation to determine the teaching of John Wesley concerning the nature of the mediatorial kingdom; to discover his view pertaining to the nature of the mediatorial kingdom in relation to the individual; and to decide upon the relation of his doctrine of the mediatorial kingdom to the Church and last things.

The justification for this research was based upon two reasons. First of all, the man, whose writings with which this study has concerned itself, has been concerned an outstanding theologian and biblical scholar. John Lawson wrote concerning the importance of Wesley to Christianity; …
