Impact Of Islamic Tv On Social Development In Egypt, Mohamed Ahmed Selim Khalil
Archived Theses and Dissertations
At a critical time where the world is accusing the Islamic media of enticing terrorism and inveigling sectarian violence and turbulence, a research had to be conducted to study Islamic Media and unveil all ambiguities and remove all the universal question marks.
Many people believe that Islamic media are mutilated off springs of the fanatic Islamic discourse propagated at some mosques' pulpits which is aiming at alluring the Muslims towards martyrdom and paradise. They neglect all earthly deeds for more infinite and definite ones awaiting the martyrs and the blessed.
This thesis examines that concept with respect to the Egyptian …

In a world where the importance of borders may be declining, knowing what is appropriate behavior for the native speakers of a target language, and being able to apply this “appropriateness”, is of the utmost importance, if learners are to communicate effectively with native speakers (Wolfson, 1983). Second language (L2) cultural values and social relationships, knowing when to talk, what to say, what is conventional in a language, and what is not, how and to what extent to be indirect (Tannen, 1984) are only some of the considerations that learners should acknowledge when performing a speech act in a foreign …

This work attempts to explore the normalized state of emergency in Egypt. For more than two decades, Egypt has existed under the control of emergency legislation designed to curb civil and political rights. This work examines the current state of emergency within the framework of socio-economic, philosophy, and Egyptian history in order to assess the rationale of its raison d'etre.
The work commences with a brief history of Egypt under the rule of the Mamluk dynasty prior to European incursion and the development of the nation-state. It then discusses the European occupation, the rise of the nation-state, and the current …

Conversations With Women In Ma'sarah, Cairo, Jeannette Rizk
Archived Theses and Dissertations
My research centers around the daily realities and lives of three women of one family in Ma'sarah, Cairo. The particularities of their life experiences speak to the experience of Egyptian women in general, while their own unique situation as Evangelical Christians in a majority Muslim country sets them apart from both their Muslim and Coptic neighbors, about whom much has been written. Various methods are used to illuminate their perception of life with a focus on gender identity. The written prose captures their personal narratives while the visual narrative, a documentary film, allows the women to speak for themselves. Together …

Sylvia Plath And The Crisis Of The Self: A Feminist Reading Of The Late Poetry, Rania Salah Mohamed
Archived Theses and Dissertations
The study of Sylvia Plath's poetry sheds light on the various approaches that can be used to read the crisis of the self in Plath's poetry. It reveals the latent power and talent of a woman poet who fought against the male tradition to express her voice and demand full recognition. Plath's late poems can be approached in different ways. The thesis examines the existential dilemma of the modern poet in a world of confusion and the psychology of defense against death and suffering in the feminist struggle against the other. These approaches are used to account for the richness …

Nature And Mystical Identity: Three Journeys To The Absolute, Mayada Mahmoud Al Shereef
Nature And Mystical Identity: Three Journeys To The Absolute, Mayada Mahmoud Al Shereef
Archived Theses and Dissertations
This thesis demonstrates three kinds of the Absolute and three different ways of approaching them. Farid Ud-Din Attar, Kate Chopin and Theodore Roethke take different roads to reach their Absolute. Similarities among the three works tackled in this thesis are represented by the role of nature in the spiritual journey to attain a mystical identity, and by having an ultimate goal of the journey called the "Absolute" . On the other hand, differences are represented by the different definitions of the Absolute that the three authors offer. This thesis also presents different notions like annihilation, unity and illumination that the …
