Through the advice of the major professor, Dr. Max F. Dalby, the writer chose to perform a recital on the clarinet and the alto saxophone, with emphasis on the saxophone. In undertaking the preparation necessary to perform a master's recital, the writer hoped to realize these objectives:

(1) To become better acquainted with major works for the saxophone and clarinet, and to develop the skills necessary to analyze and interpret those works.

(2) To improve his performing ability.

"In The Toils" Or "Onward For Zion": Images Of The Mormon Woman, 1852-1890, Gail Farr Casterline

The purpose of this thesis is to identify and discuss various popular images of the Mormon women of Utah between 1852 and 1890, the period during which the Latter-day Saints openly practiced plural marriage. The phrase "in the toils" refers to the basic image present in the minds of many Americans--that the women of the church were an oppressed, unhappy, enslaved group of individuals. This image, expressed in different ways, is found in many published writings of the period examined.

After demonstrating the presence of this "in the toils" image, this study then attempts to analyze and evaluate its significance. …

This paper is about human relation with and reaction to the Absurd. The Absurd seen in terms of the theatre, and the Absurd in relation to human images. The "Absurd" is not easy to define; it is more a condition than a concept--understood more easily by reference to an extensive body of metaphor.
