This collection consists of a pencil sketch of a bearded man in a suit and hat pasted on the inside of a scrapbook cover. The sketch has a note that states, “Sketch by Professor E. W. Meyers. Marshall College Huntington West Virginia – 1928”. Also included is a 2008 letter from the donor stating the provenance of the item.

This history of Marshall Academy, now Marshall University, is a transcription of typescript and holograph manuscript pages written by Virgil Lewis between 1910 and 1912, while he was serving as state archivist of West Virginia. Lewis, as state archivist, had access to sources, many of which are now unavailable to researchers. Of particular note are Lewis's complete transcriptions of the reports of the trustees of Marshall Academy to the Virginia Literary Fund (1839-1846), and his documentation of the years when the academy, later college, came under the control of the Methodist Episcopal Church South (1850-1858).

This collection consists of correspondence, photographs, a scrapbook, clippings, and ephemera related to Marion Vest Fors' murals which were painted in the James E. Morrow Library as part of the centennial celebration of Marshall College. The murals were removed for remodeling circa 1966 and remounted in 2005. The scrapbook was created by Fors about her creation of the mural to justify its emergence from storage and reuse in the Morrow Library. Also included in the collection are paintbrushes used in the painting of the murals.

This collection consists of photographs of Himlerville, the Himler Coal Company town, as well as scanned copies of photographs of 1937 and 1943 flood damage, and a survey book by George H. Gunnoe Jr. containing detailed surveys of Marshall College buildings by engineering students in 1937.

Miller wrote extensively, and the collection includes poems and partial poems, ideas, and short verses written on scrap paper, envelopes, paper towels, carboard, postcards, and various other types of paper. The Virgil A. Lewis papers consist primarily of a holograph draft of a history of Marshall College from its founding in 1837 until the 1890s, with an emphasis on the early years, before the Civil War. Included are research notes, trascriptions of documents, correspondence, and a copy of the contract between Mrs. Virgil Lewis and Lawrence Corbly, former president of the college, who carried on the work of the history after Mr. Lewis's death.
