Case Notes And Carting Of Bioethical Case Consultations, Benjamin Freedman, Charles Weijer, Eugene Bereza

Charles Weijer

In summary, the usual elements of a typical health care ethics consultation note might reasonably accommodate the needs and expectations of relevant parties, and would therefore include: 1. identification of the relevant ethical issues, questions, or dilemmas; 2. reference to any relevant facts--medical, nursing, social, psychological, spiritual, legal, political, etc.; 3. a prioritized list of recommendations to improve coordinated care; 4. a clear and concise articulation of relevant arguments, wtih specific reference to the list of recommendations as well as to the institution's overall ethos; 5. a contextual statement, identifying the perceived degree of consensus or support for the recommendations …

Anticipating Alienation: Beowulf And The Intrusion Of Literacy, Michael Near Feb 1993

Anticipating Alienation: Beowulf And The Intrusion Of Literacy, Michael Near

Michael Near

Implicit in Beowulf's thematic involvement with language is a marked and persistent hostility toward the epistemological foundation underpinning the practice of literacy. While the poem seems to acknowledge the psychological posture conditioned by, or at least compatible with, literate practices, the acknowledgment characterizes that posture as a clear, direct threat to the ordering structures-and thus to the basic survival-of the poem's central system of personal interdependencies. Beowulf confronts the psychological demands of the reading experience by persistently reaffirming those idioms of speech and patterns of interaction that require the open immediacy of spoken exchange. The confrontations set in conflict not …

The Golden Rule Argument Against Abortion, Harry Gensler, S.J.

Harry J. Gensler, S.J.

This anthology examines 11 key issues dealing with the beginning and end of life, and presents a balanced set of 67 classic and contemporary readings on each of them. It is unique in its coverage of applied ethics, medical topics, and broad theoretical considerations of issues of life and death-the sanctity of life versus the quality of life, and the meaning of life and death. The section on Ethical Theory covers the classic theories as well as ethical relativism to orient students to the nature and importance of ethics. The Humanity Of God In Liberal Orthodox Theology, Paul Valliere Dec 1992

The Humanity Of God In Liberal Orthodox Theology, Paul Valliere

Paul Valliere

The purpose of this paper is to present some of the testimonies of liberal Orthodox theology in late Imperial Russia concerning the theology of Incarnation. Since it may come as a surprise to many people, even to many Orthodox, that a tradition of liberal theology existed in Russian Orthodoxy, the evidence I adduce may be of interest apart from the specific theological discussion to which it pertains.

L'Attribution Des Poêmes Du Comte De Poitiers À Guillaume Ix D'Aquitaine, George Beech Dec 1992

L'Attribution Des Poêmes Du Comte De Poitiers À Guillaume Ix D'Aquitaine, George Beech

George T. Beech

The Eleanor of Aquitaine vase in the Louvre has long been known as one of the rare modern survivals of the famous treasury of the royal abbey of Saint-Denis carefully assembled by Abbot Suger in the mid twelfth century. Suger's own inscription on his elaborate mounting for the vase tells how it came into his possession through Eleanor of Aquitaine's grandfather, William IX of Aquitaine, Eleanor herself, and her first husband, Louis VII of France. But the earlier history of the vase, which is of early medieval, mid-eastern origin is obscure because until now no one has been able to …

Historic Costume Reproductions – Higgins Armory Museum, Arlene Handschuch

Arlene Handschuch

The Higgins Armory Museum in Worcester, MA had one of the largest displays of armor and arms in the western hemisphere. To complement the armor on display in the main gallery and to enhance their educational programs, the Museum commissioned my research, drafting and construction of a collection of renaissance and medieval historic costume reproductions. The costumes are used under the armor exhibited on display forms, on horse display forms for jousting exhibits, for display with dog armor, for wear by the educational staff during their educational presentations and for images printed on postcards sold in the Museum’s gift store. …
