WLBZ radio evolved from the passion of Thompson Guernsey, an amateur radio buff from Dover-Foxcroft who began experimenting with radio at the age of thirteen. As noted in a piece written by Fred Thompson in The History of Broadcasting in Maine: the First Fifty Years, Guernsey, considered by some to be an eccentric genius, began with homemade receivers and transmitters and an amateur license granted in 1921. After graduating from the University of Maine in 1926, Guernsey began operating WLBZ as a commercial broadcast station from Dover-Foxcroft.

Irvin "Buzz" Caverly, Jr. began working at Baxter State Park in 1960 as Park Ranger I immediately after graduating from Lee Academy in Lee, Maine. In 1982, 22 years after first being hired as a ranger, Caverly was selected to be the Baxter State Park Director, a position he would remain in until his retirement in 2005. Caverly remained active with the park, accepting an appointment from Governor Baldacci in 2007 to serve as the Baxter Park Wilderness Trust Fund Commissioner.

William S. Cohen was born on August 28, 1940 in Bangor, Maine. His father Reuben, a baker, was a Russian-Jewish immigrant and his mother, Clara, is of Irish-Protestant extraction. Cohen graduated from Bangor High School in 1958, and from Bowdoin College with an A.B. cum laude in Latin in 1962. An accomplished athlete, he was named to the Maine all-state high school and college basketball teams, and, while at Bowdoin, he was inducted into the New England All-Star Hall of Fame. John Newcomer Feaster was born in 1908 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and died in 1980. He received his A.B. degree from Bucknell University in 1930, with high honors. He graduated, also with honors, from the Andover-Newton Theological School in 1933. He came to Maine to accept a call to the Kennebunkport parish upon his graduation from theological school. He served there for 7 years and then served as pastor of the Hammond Street Congregational Church in Bangor, Maine for 7 years. Born in Everett, Massachusetts, Richard J. Campana (1918-2005) received a BSF from the University of Idaho in 1943. Campana then served as a surgical technician in the U.S. Army, and earned a Bronze Star award during WWII after being held as a prisoner of war (1943-1946). After the war, Campana earned an MS in Forestry from Yale University in 1974 and a Ph.D. in Forest Pathology in 1952. Soon after, Campana began his professional study and observation of Dutch Elm Disease

Albert Lincoln "Bert" Call, 1866-1963, was a professional photographer in Dexter, Maine, from 1887 to 1953. He started as an apprentice to A.G. Fassett and shortly thereafter purchased Fassett's studio. Call was a portrait photographer but was also known for his artistic photographs of the northern Maine woods. Call also served as the official photographer for the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad's publication, "In the Maine Woods," from 1915 to 1931.

The collection includes 3,376 photographs dating between 1914 and 1939 of outdoor scenes of mountains, lakes, woods and streams in the northern part of Maine. Included are shots from the …

Volumes dating from 1859 and 1860 kept by various masters of fishing vessels from Jonesport, Addison, Harrington and Milbridge, Maine. The journals were to be produced to the collector of customs for the District of Machias, Maine. Each volume includes information about the weather and sailing conditions as well as a record of the number of fish taken each day. Fishermen's shipping papers are also included for some of the vessels.

The Frank Taylor Photograph Collection includes primarily bridge constructions sites showing the progress of construction of bridges around Maine in the 1930s. Several photographs include company owners and construction crews, including two of an underwater diver. There are also a few photographs of bridge sites in Canada and New Jersey, and photographs of family, college friends, Maine scenery.

James Arnold Colbath earned a B.S. in 1948 from the University of Maine, a M.A. (1950), M.F.A. (1951), and Ph.D. (1962) from Case Western Reserve University. Colbath's Ph.D. was on Japanese Noh drama. Colbath taught at a number of academic institutions from 1951-1968 before returning to the University of Maine in 1968 as an Associate Professor of Theatre. While at the University of Maine Colbath was also the Area Coordinator of the Theatre Division in the School of Performing Arts and Director of the Maine Masque Theatre (1970-1978). Susan Stevens was born in Salem, Massachusetts. In 1934 she received her bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut, followed by her master's degree from the University of Massachusetts. Additionally she was working toward a Ph.D. at the University of California. She had a great interest in Indian people and their culture, moving to the Passamaquoddy Indian reservation in Princeton, Maine, in 1969. She was very interested in issues relating to alcoholism and directed the state alcohol research and treatment program in Indian Township, Maine. Founded in 1880, Sewall began offering aerial photography services in the 1940s. The photo archive the company produced captures aerial views of nearly every part of Maine, as well as various locations in New England, Alaska, Canada, and the southern and central U.S. Many regions were photographed multiple times over the course of decades. The collection includes 1 million images.

The University of Maine began conferring Honorary Degrees in 1886. The first recipient to receive an Honorary Degree was Charles H. Fernald, a University professor of Natural history. Upon Fernald's resignation, the University of Maine conferred upon him a Ph. D. In 1965, the University of Maine changed its policy and conferred six to twelve honorary degrees during both the June and August Commencement ceremonies. Degree recipients ranged from presidents to Supreme Court justices to veterans and business leaders.

Our Neighborhood Club of Old Town, Maine, was organized in 1893 and federated in the Maine Federation of Women's Clubs in 1901. The group sought out the collective betterment of each member and the community by doing charity work. They often donated gifts, money, and time to hospitals, veterans organizations, and cancer research.

The Our Neighborhood Club papers collection consists of club program booklets, scrapbooks, photographs, as well as club meeting minutes and attendance. The collection does have papers that span between 1908 to 2007, however, the collection primarily focuses on club materials during the 1960s through the 1990s.

Ella Corinne Brown was a faculty member at the University of Maine in Orono from 1962 to 1979. She was responsible for writing the course program for parks and recreation and designed the specialized program leading to a degree in parks and recreation. Brown was born in 1920 in Kansas City, Missouri and died in Orono, Maine in 1987. She graduated from the University of Missouri in 1951 and received her master's degree from Montana State University in 1961. She received her Ph.D. degree from Indiana University.
