Intra-EU migration is a phenomenon innate to the structure of the European Union. A politico-economic union of twenty-eight countries, the EU does what no other alliance of countries has endeavored before, serving as a unique product of globalization and integration, in every sense of the word. Bound almost entirely by a common currency, the European Union is established in the belief that economic cooperation in Europe can be achieved through the principle of free movement, despite each member states’ individual way of life, language, and political, religious, and cultural ideology.

Lieux De Mémoire, Lieux D'Oubli: La Mémoire Et L'Espace Urbain Dans Deux Romans De Patrick Modiano, Julia Mardeusz

In this paper, I examine the intersection of memory and urban space in two of Patrick Modiano's novels, Dora Bruder and Quartier Perdu. To explain their intersection in these two novels and the difference between how memory and place relate to one another in each novel, I rely on theories of how collective and individual memory are affected by urban space created by Pierre Nora and Qazi Azizul Mowla.

I have researched how Italian domestic policies has been impacted by ISIS in recent years, in particular through the lenses of the threat of terrorism, and the refugee crisis. Recent examples include the terrorist attacks in neighboring France and Belgium, and the multilateral agreement to relocate refugees to Turkey. My two hypotheses based on my research are that the threat of terrorism has caused Italian domestic policies to become more conservative, such as attempted bans on religious iconography like the hijab, while the refugee crisis has actually caused resultant policies to become more liberal, such as the ambitious humanitarian program …
