Decolonizing And Indigenizing Liberation Theology, Allen Jorgenson

This chapter considers how liberation theology might be informed by spiritualities and worldviews from the First Peoples of North America, sometimes called Turtle Island. In so doing, I reference teachings, treaties and ceremonies from the community nearest me, the Six Nations of the Grand River Nation, whose members are Haudenosaunee.

In what follows I first provide an apologia for this project before imagining how each verb of the liberation hermeneutic of “see, judge, act” might be informed, in turn, by the Haudenosaunee Dish With One Spoon Wampum, the Two Row Wampum, and the Condolence Ceremony. In so doing, I will …
