What are the educational needs of an adult layperson concerning world mission? What ought an introductory adult mission education study course attempt to teach? This thesis endeavors to answer the question in three chapters.

This thesis intends to deal with the three-self principle and the IELB. In the first chapter the historical origin and development of the three-self mission approach will be presented. The question "Are they biblical?" will be answered in the second chapter. The third chapter will focus on the Brazilian background of the IELB, with the ethnic composition of its people, its economic and social status, and its chief religions.
