Towards An Islamic Theology Of Nonviolence: A Critical Appraisal Of Maulana Wahiduddin Khan's View Of Jihad (Part Ii), Irfan A. Omar
Theology Faculty Research and Publications
In the second and last part of his article (see September issue, 671·80) Dr Omar explains the true meaning of Jihad in the ancient Islamic sources, which does not stand for violent warfare but for the struggle that every Muslim , indeed every person, should go through to remain obedient to God's Word and to fulfil [sic] the will of God on earth. With this we wish to commemorate the UNO declared day dedicated to non-violence, the day known in India as Gandhi Jayanti (Oct. 2).

The Gods Of My Father Terah’: Abraham The Iconoclast And The Polemics With The Divine Body Traditions In The Apocalypse Of Abraham, Andrei Orlov
Theology Faculty Research and Publications
The first eight chapters of the Apocalypse of Abraham recount the early years of the young hero of the faith who is depicted as a fighter against the idolatrous practices of his father Terah. The conceptual developments found in this section of the work, especially in the depictions of the idolatrous statues, seem to play an important role in the work's overall retraction of the anthropomorphic understanding of the deity. In the depictions of the idol Bar-Eshath (`the Son of Fire') and some other human-like figures, whose features are vividly reminiscent of the familiar attributes of the anthropomorphic portrayals of …

The article discusses the postelection crisis in Kenya which has caused suffering to innocent civilians in the area. It states that the chaos was caused by the negligence of both the opposing parties of incumbent candidate Mwai Kibaki and his rival Raila Odinga. The author claimed that Kenyan people would continue to suffer and the nation will continue to be troubled because of the selfishness of both leaders over power.
Interpreting Vatican Ii: “A New Pentecost”, Thomas Hughson
Interpreting Vatican Ii: “A New Pentecost”, Thomas Hughson
Theology Faculty Research and Publications
Pope John XXIII's prayerful phrase “a new Pentecost” linked Vatican II with the Holy Spirit and has interpretative potential. It focuses the pneumatological dimensions of the epochal event and documents. The article considers Pentecost in the constitution of the church, emphasizes the pneumatological difference, underlines the finality of Vatican II toward renewal in the church's (now dialogical) mission, and concludes to a completeness in the council.
Inspiration And Inerrancy In Scripture, Ralph Del Colle
Inspiration And Inerrancy In Scripture, Ralph Del Colle

Inspiration in Qur'anic revelation is quite different from the Catholic understanding. The incarnational principle through which the human faculties of the inspired writer are active in the very mode of receptivity seems to be understood differently by Muslims. Differences in understanding how the "God who speaks" is known by his creatures can lead to invaluable dialogue and mutual understanding for both of our Abrahamic traditions.

The Pillar Of The World: The Eschatological Role Of The Seventh Antediluvian Hero In 2 (Slavonic) Enoch, Andrei Orlov
Theology Faculty Research and Publications
The later Jewish mystical lore often portrays Enoch-Metatron as the
cosmic foundation sustaining the world or even as the pillar linking the
lower and upper worlds.
The current paper argues that the roots of this tradition about the
righteous antediluvian hero as the cosmic foundation of the world can be
detected already in 2 Enoch where Enoch is portrayed as the first fruit of
the future eschatological aeon of the righteous and the link between the
upper and the lower worlds.
Although in 2 Enoch the seventh antediluvian hero is never directly
named as either the foundation or the pillar, …
