Church, State And Nation In Ukraine, Serhii Plokhy Oct 1999

Church, State And Nation In Ukraine, Serhii Plokhy

Occasional Papers on Religion in Eastern Europe

Much of the current discussion concerning the future of independent Ukraine has centered on the issue of nation-building. Two models of the Ukrainian state, (1) national (the state of the ‘Ukrainian people’) and (2) multi-ethnic (the state of ‘the people of Ukraine’), usually serve as starting points for scholarly discussions.2 It is quite obvious that the future of church-state relations in Ukraine will depend heavily on the choices made by the newly independent state in its nationbuilding strategy. The Life Of Aleksandr Men': Hagiography In The Making, Janet M. Wehrle Jun 1999

The Life Of Aleksandr Men': Hagiography In The Making, Janet M. Wehrle

Occasional Papers on Religion in Eastern Europe

Hagiography is not an extinct genre in Russian literature, even though many believe that it was important in the history of early Russian literature but became irrelevant as Russian literature entered its modem period. The biographies and memoirs of these modem "saints" retain some of …
