Students from Dr. Judith Ezekiel's Spring 2015 Women's Studies courses, "Feminist Activism" and "Women, Gender, and Black Freedom Movements," collaborated to create a booklet that presents the lives of a dozen black women who were killed by the police or who died while in police custody, in order to argue for the inclusion of black women in the "Black Lives Matter" movement, not merely as originators and supporters of the cause but as a group that is protected and remembered within the movement in the same capacity as black men.

Science has long debunked genetic differences between races but prior to this knowledge several hundred thousand people believed otherwise. Fueled by Social Darwinism and evolutionary theories the Eugenics Movement emerged. This school of thought turned into a social movement and began as a method of reducing society to its most fit members. This scientific racism employed an insidious agenda to reduce procreation amongst blacks in America. This ethnic cleansing was rather overt except toward the thousands upon thousands of black women being sterilized unbeknownst to them. Divisions concerning best policy practices simmer underneath the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) image as a united body with one major exception: China's Family Planning Policy or the one child per couple policy. Within the CCP, China's 1.3 billion population is accepted, without challenge as a major problem that must be addressed ever since the party took a hardline stance in 1979 to reduce the Chinese people's fertility. This thesis will explore how African-American women adopt a negotiated reading of the Bible and the church in order for reconciliation of their contradictory experiences as ministers. The personal stories of Black women preachers, who were interviewed for this project, will reveal how a negotiated reading allows them to reconcile the sexism within the structure and practices of the Black church with the significance of the church as a site of personal fulfillment and spiritual liberation.
