I am attempting to share a collective analysis of self-explored thoughts as to where and why I have certain viewpoints or biases on whether “this” or “that” might account for my understanding of what a Franco-American is. Long May They Run, an article in Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Magazine about the history and culture of the Maine sardine industry. In 2010, the "Year of the Sardine" and the closure of the Stinson sardine plant, the last in the United States, prompted an exploration of why writers, painters, and other artists are so drawn to this humble fish that once supported so many of Maine's coastal communities.

This stud y utilizes archival and other primary materials to describe the development of the New York Times op-ed page. This innovative forum for commentary, which premiered in September 1970, is examined through the lenses of Jiirgen Habermas' public sphere theory and eco nomic concerns in the American newspaper industry. The page provid ed a significant source of revenue and diversified social, cultural, and political news analysis. Times executives sought to serve the public interest while considering corporate profits.

Patterns Of Infant Mortality In The Upper St. John Valley French Population: 1791-1838, Marcella H. Sorg, Beatrice C. Craig
Anthropology Faculty Scholarship
The purpose of this paper is to provide a descriptive analysis of infant mortality patterns in a pre-industrial North American population, the Madawaska French of the upper St. John Valley. A synchronic approach was taken in examining a series of 320 infant deaths identified through family reconstitution. The infant mortality rate for the series is 132 per 1000, low compared to other pre-industrial populations. The large average completed family size of 11.34 is associated with short birth intervals averaging 21.9 months. Women who experience infant mortality were found to have significantly larger completed families that those who did not. Infant …

This agency will be particularly concerned about any impact which this project might have on any existing, proposed or known units of the National Park System, or any known historic, natural or environmental education sites which are currently part of , or eligible for, the National Landmark Program. This report is a planning aid for the proposed Dickey-Lincoln Dams and Reservoirs project in Maine. A number of endangered, rare, or unique animal species are known or suspected to occur in the project area.
