A collaborative concert featuring the Andrews University Symphony Orchestra, Chris Wild, conductor, and the Andrews University Singers and Chorale, Stephen Zork, conductor, as they present "Easter Gloria." The concert will begin with choruses selected from the Easter portions of Handel's "Messiah", followed by the Overture from Giuseppe Verdi's "Nabucco", and conclude with John Rutter’s Gloria.

Performing together with the Andrews University Symphony Orchestra (AUSO), the 2022 Young Artist Concert will feature student soloists Betania Cañas (flute), Benie Safari Dushime (soprano), Andrew Pak (piano), Grant Steinweg (cellist and composer), and Shania Watts (viola). All soloists were selected as winners at the AU Department of Music's Young Artist Competition.

The largest composition on this program is jazz legend Duke Ellington’s orchestral masterpiece The River, which he completed in collaboration with orchestrator Ron Collier. The full composition was commissioned by the American Ballet Theater, and so tonight’s program features the standard “Suite” of musical selections extracted from that ballet. Beginning as a delicate Spring, this Suite includes seven watery miniatures such as Meander, Giggling Rapids, Lake, and Vortex. The contrasts in energy and color are striking! The Andrews University Symphony Orchestra is excited to present its first full concert of the new school year, one that will be open to more audience members than anything in the previous year.
