If music is indeed that "eternal essence" man claims it is, it is through the voice and sinew of the living that it receives its' immortality. Through the living student, performer, listener, or critic, it is transformed from the silent sheets of past symbols, channelled through the present feeling and being of one's intellect and knowledge, interpolated into meaningful messages, and once perceived, given again to the timeless sounding halls of tomorrow's memory.

It is through the choosing, the sifting, the chewing, and the internalizing of one's unique vehicle of capability that material is chosen, studied, and rendered. This paper …

Preparation for the graduate recital provides the Master's candidate an opportunity to exercise a variety of musical skills. Choosing the best possible program requires not only a working knowledge of the available repertory, but a personal assessment of the particular voice with its characteristic strengths and weaknesses. The final selection must reflect a fine balance of material difficult enough to provide a musical challenge and material with which a singer can feel comfortable in communicating.

Working toward the performance involves both intellectual preparation through research and physical preparation through vocal conditioning. It is not enough to anticipate vocal difficulties and …

From ancient times to the present, music has been composed for instrumental combinations as well as for single instruments. The manner in which these combinations were utilized depended upon current compositional practices, especially those regarding form. In the Baroque Period instrumental ensembles were formed according to the composer's discretion. The tone color embodiment of a particular musical work was set more by the composer's choice of instruments to be included in the ensemble than in his use of instruments as independent tone color sources . The Baroque composer's use of instrumental color was in this way consistent with his use …
