Central Of Georgia Railway Records, Zach S. Henderson Library Special Collections

Finding Aids

This collection consists of materials spanning 1941-1947 and includes business records and correspondence of the Central of Georgia Railway Company as well as detailed reports of employees’ United States military service during World War II. These reports include employee military records, interviews conducted by Central of Georgia Railway Company of veteran employees, and letters expressing their gratitude for their service in the war. Evans County Centennial Celebration Collection, Zach S. Henderson Library Special Collections

Finding Aids

Spanning 1911-2014, the materials in this collection include historic photographs, maps, and manuscript materials that were acquired and created by the Evans County Centennial Celebration committee during the Centennial Celebration of Evans County. With one exception, materials span the one hundred years since the county’s founding in 1914. The Centennial Celebration committee sponsored and produced several publications about the history of Evans County. Digital materials consist of photographs, video recordings, maps and other materials about the history of Evans County and the centennial celebration

This collection includes the creative works of Stephen D. Geller and personal materials ranging from 1954-2007. Creative works include his completed screenplays, teleplays, scripts, manuscripts, novels, poems, research files, and other related materials. Personal bound copies of some of his works are handwritten while others are typed. Personal materials include family photographs, an astrology birth chart, correspondence, and materials related to Geller’s early education.

This collection consists of photocopies of articles and book excerpts written by Roland M. Harper for publication in scholarly journals and various other botanical bulletins. This collection consists of the papers of Georgia Southern Emerita Professor of Art, Roxie A. Remley, from 1942-2020. Materials include professional and personal correspondence, journals, day calendars, photographs, and other unpublished materials related to Remley’s work with the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC), later Women’s Army Corps, Georgia Southern College, the Statesboro First Methodist Church, and other local organizations. Examples of Remley’s artwork and framed prints are included as well as materials originally belonging to Georgia B. Watson.

This collection consists of the personal papers of Lieutenant Leroy N. Suddath, Sr. during his service in the U.S. Army during World War I from 1917-1918. Materials include a handwritten diary and a bound book of reproduced letters from Suddath to his wife, Lucille Howle Suddath. Also included are diary transcripts and digital reproductions of created in 2022.

This collection consists of aerial photographs of Georgia counties produced by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) from the 1940s to 1950s. The collection contains standard and oversized aerial photographs of Georgia counties including Bulloch, Screven, Toombs, Emanuel, Jenkins, and Wayne, and surrounding counties.

This collection consists of personal and professional papers of Peter Zack Geer, Jr. Materials span 1923-1967 and include documents relating to Geer's law practice, his service as Executive Secretary to Governor S. Ernest Vandiver (1958-1961), and as Georgia Lt. Governor under Governor Carl Sanders (1963-1967). The subject files contain information regarding the civil rights movement, race relations in Georgia, Julian Bond, Herman Talmadge, and Jeannette Rankin. The papers also contain the law files of his father Peter Zack Geer, Sr.

This collection consists of a series of twenty-one letters to Laura Dorough “Mother” Dyar from Margaret Mitchell, Mitchell’s husband, John Marsh, and Mitchell’s secretary Margaret E. Baugh, dating anywhere from 1936 to 1950. Most are signed by “Peggy” Mitchell, a nickname that Margaret Mitchell went by beginning in the 1920s. One letter is handwritten and includes a handwritten envelope while the others are typed. The letters, mostly the exchange of two close friends, contain content related to Mitchell’s writing of Gone With the Wind as well as mentions of the movie.
