The purpose of this thesis is to examine the nature and extent of the humor in Georges Duhamel's ten-volume saga, "Chroniques des Pasquier," and to offer a suggested classification of it. There is no intent to make detailed comparisons with other works, or to attempt to fit the present analysis into any aesthetic or philosophical system other than the relatively simple classification into which the subject seemed rather naturally to divide itself, the writer disclaiming any pretension to the technical knowledge necessary to any of numerous other modes of inquiry.
