This year the Swiss members of the SAHS held their traditional meeting on Saturday, October 9, 1999 in St. Gallen's Washington House. Despite the first signs of winter - windy conditions and low temperatures characteristic for the region at this time - Dr. Marcel Mayer of the City Archive of St. Gallen first took some thirty guests on a tour of St. Gallen's merchant houses typical of the City's 19th and 20th centuries' textile industry.
