Disney Princesses And Gender Expectations, Miranda Carter
Disney Princesses And Gender Expectations, Miranda Carter
Spring Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry
My research aims to show the older generation of Disney princesses' problems and how they are changing the narrative to give girls more agency. In some research, I have learned that 'Disney Princesses represent salient, powerful, attractive characters who tend to be portrayed as conforming to gender stereotypes and are rewarded for their gendered behavior' (Coyner, para9). Most girls identify with older princesses like Snow White or Cinderella than newer ones who give women more agency. I believe this is a topic that needs to be discussed more because it significantly affects girls and their identities. It is something that …
Heavy Metal, Moral Panic, And Residing Stigma, Frank Knott Iv
Heavy Metal, Moral Panic, And Residing Stigma, Frank Knott Iv
Spring Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry
Since its origins of the 1970s up to the present, the musical themes of Heavy Metal along with the associated subcultures have been the prey of various moral ideologies, particularly of a conservative matter. Moral panics have ensued in the past over various qualities of the genre, and there is still residual stigma to be found today, much of which is based upon misperceptions of cause and effect.

Are School Lunches Actually Healthy?, Jenna Cedor
Are School Lunches Actually Healthy?, Jenna Cedor
Spring Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry
For my research project I chose to examine whether school lunches are actually as healthy as they come out to be, and I will briefly look at why some frown upon them. While some individuals frown upon school lunches, if they are able to be served, they have to meet the requirements and standards that are in place. I want to be able to confidently tell those who are concerned that they can let their children eat the lunches that their schools provide them and not have a choice but to only eat a packed lunch. I also think some …

The Coca-Cola Foundation's Funds, Katherine Frey
Fall Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry
The Coca-Cola Company is widely known to spend billions of dollars on advertising. Many of these advertising campaigns center around the company's philanthropic efforts. In 2017, the Coca-Cola Foundation has helped to donate over $138 million to different organizations in order to give back to the community. I used data from this past completed year (2019) to see how much the Coca-Cola Foundation is contributing to specific causes. Using Coca Cola bottle caps, I will show the amount of money being donated to each area. Some of these areas include women's empowerment, the environment, and education, which are the main …

The research will focus on clearly defining the misperceptions about pharmaceutical prices and ways to eliminate massive upselling on drugs. The purpose is to determine ways to make drugs more affordable while ensuring access to everyone who needs them. The impact will most …

Comparative Analysis: Animal Research Versus Animal Testing, Hannah Vanhoose
Comparative Analysis: Animal Research Versus Animal Testing, Hannah Vanhoose
Fall Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry
Currently, there is a push to eliminate the use of animals in all experimental settings. Animal rights organizations like PETA and the Animal Welfare Institute consistently advocate for the well-being of animals in many aspects, including in the laboratory setting. While it is necessary to eradicate the maltreatment of animals found in unregulated testing centers, it is important to distinguish the differences between testing and research involving animals. The focus of this research is to demonstrate that while it is essential to cut down on harmful testing, the use of animals in medical research is crucial.

The Effect Mental Health Portrayals In Television Shows Have On Viewers, Cade Kinzel
The Effect Mental Health Portrayals In Television Shows Have On Viewers, Cade Kinzel
Fall Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry
The goal of this study was to research the connections between portrayals in television shows and real-life people with mental health conditions. In addition, another purpose was to conclude whether my initial thoughts, which include believing a minimal numbers of TV shows contain any positive effect on viewer mental health, were supported. Misperceptions about mental health, including a justified feeling to hide mental conditions, judge others for theirs, or use it as a way for humor, are often given in television shows when mental health is included in the story (Smith, et al. 2019). I created a blog that revolved …

On the night of January 28, 1985, the charity single song, “We Are The World,” written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, was produced in A&M Studios in Los Angeles. At the recording studio, there was a sign that said, “Check your egos at the door,” which acted as a visual reminder for why these artists were there. This idea was put in place by producer Quincy Jones, who knew he had one night to bring over 40 of the country’s biggest stars together for a cause much bigger than themselves. A rhetorical analysis of “We Are The World” reveals …
Ya Think Ya Know A Guy, Glenn Spencer
Ya Think Ya Know A Guy, Glenn Spencer
Spring Presentation of Undergraduate Research
Through looking at the graphic novel Y the Last Man by Brian K. Vaughn this research project will be exploring ideas of male and female gender performance. This text provides a tight focus on a single male in a suddenly female-dominated world that flips the stereotypical gender script and allows a new perspective to be taken when looking at gender performance. This juxtaposition of strong and complicated female characters to Yorick's less than heroic nature in Vaughn's novel is his tool to break down what it means to be a man and an attempt to create a dynamic between the …
