This study is an empirical analysis of communication styles in Japan and the United States. In particular, the study deals with communication styles in Japanese and American television commercials as a reflection of human communication styles in the two countries.

The field of Mongolian Studies in North America has had its ups and downs over the past decade. While some universities, like Indiana and Brigham Young, have expanded their offerings and others, like Saskatchewan and Western Washington, have entered the field, there has also been some contraction. In several ways, the most regrettable casualty of the budget axe was the fine program at the University of Washington which had been founded and guided by Nicholas Poppe but which was eliminated soon after his retirement.

Continuing Education For Indonesian Language Teachers In Victoria, Australia, Lambert Kelabora

The last ten years have witnessed a significant growth in the teaching of Bahasa Indonesia in Australia. Of the 98 Indonesian language teachers in 1975, 62 (63%) responded to the present study. Amongst them were eight native speakers of Bahasa Indonesian who are all teaching at private schools. This paper explores the needs for and the provision of in-service training amongst these teachers. Some suggested solutions to the problems in this field will be implicit in the analysis.

The thesis is an examination of the history of the Chinese community in Portland, Oregon, with special emphasis on the mutual support organizations developed by this community.

The study is primarily descriptive in nature. It includes background information on social, economic, and political conditions in China in the nineteenth century; an account of the history of the Chinese and Chinese organizations in Portland, and an examination of the issues involved in providing social services to Asian communities.
