Seeing Witchcraft, Bernhard Udelhoven
Seeing Witchcraft, Bernhard Udelhoven
Journal of Global Catholicism
When Christians in Zambia struggle with witchcraft, they also struggle with African cultural and religious concepts that deal with life’s ambiguities and that require discernment. It is not by working against the cultural and religious heritage, but by working with it, as far as possible, that the pastor can identify the broken relationships towards which many witchcraft discourses point. However, before we place the concepts of witchcraft into the realm of superstition (as are the trends of mission Christianity) or the demonic (as are the trends of charismatic Christianity), the Church has the duty to look at the concepts, stay …

Haiyun Tci Practice Series (1): From Input To Output: Introduction To Teaching With Comprehensible Input, Haiyun Lu
Chinese Language Teaching Methodology and Technology
Dr. Stephen Krashen’ work in the second language acquisition has been influencing how language is taught in a classroom in the last 40 years. The comprehension based instructions from Teaching Proficiency Through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS), Movie Talk (MT), Embedded Reading and Story Listening to Total Physical Response (TPR) and Natural Approach, etc., have fundamentally challenged a traditional grammar-driver language class’s status quo, and impacted the real classroom applications; hence, the result of proficiency.

A Study Of The Nature And Impact Of Shona And Chinese Rhyming Words/Phrases, Herbert Mushangwe, Muchinei Musona
Chinese Language Teaching Methodology and Technology
Pairs of rhyming words/phrases in Chinese and Shona were investigated in an attempt to bring out the effect of such words to the teaching and learning of Chinese language. The pairs were grouped in accordance to their effects and nature of relationship. The selection of the words was based on samples obtained during classroom teaching. Students’ reaction to Chinese words automatically tells the story of the effect of such rhyming words. For instance, for embarrassing rhyming words learners naturally shy out to pronounce the words or they laugh instead of imitating the teacher. It is clear that the study of …

Motivation, Learning Strategies, And Language Competency In A Technology Facilitated Chinese As A Second Language Classroom, Xiongyi Liu, Lih-Ching Chen Wang
Chinese Language Teaching Methodology and Technology
The present study examines the effectiveness of a game-based mobile technology application Kahoot on the motivation and language competency of high school student learning Chinese as a second language, and the relationship among student motivation, learning strategy use, and language competency in such a technology-facilitated classroom. Data was collected using pre and post surveys from a class of 18 students taught by a teacher candidate in a Chinese teaching licensure program at a state university. The results indicate significant student improvements in two areas of Chinese language learning: reading and speaking, though no significant difference was found in the areas …

Intrigue: Murder In The Lucky Holiday Hotel – A Greek Tragedy In China, Sonya Song
RadioDoc Review
Following the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, President Xi Jinping has rendered himself the omnipotent ruler of one fifth of the world’s population. Xi has defeated his political rivals with no mercy; among them was a rising political star, Bo Xilai, who was shot down in 2012 and is now in prison. Bo has been nearly forgotten – until early this year when his dramatic life and political battle were revived by Carrie Gracie with her brilliant BBC podcast series, Intrigue: Murder in the Lucky Holiday Hotel.
Although as a Chinese native I followed …

Intrigue: Murder In The Lucky Holiday Hotel – A Chinese House Of Cards Meets Agatha Christie., Drew Ambrose
RadioDoc Review
Intrigue: Murder in the Lucky Holiday Hotel is a podcast that is Agatha Christie meets House of Cards with an Oriental twist. It tells the story of the downfall of Bo Xilai, a once powerful and charismatic politician, who could have eclipsed current President Xi Jingping as a future leader of China if the cards fell his way. Despite the challenges of reporting in China, BBC China Editor Carrie Gracie is able to explain with clarity the tale of money, sex and power than unravelled Bo Xilai.

Immigration And Naturalization: A Possible Solution To The Japan Crisis, Samuel Dehaan
Immigration And Naturalization: A Possible Solution To The Japan Crisis, Samuel Dehaan
Ursidae: The Undergraduate Research Journal at the University of Northern Colorado
This study examines the current demographic crisis in Japan, namely the lack of eligible adults in the workforce, a lack of relationships and marriages, and an aging population, which has led to a declining population. This study suggests that a possible solution to the crisis would be to include foreigners in the Japanese workforce through immigration and naturalization. This thesis first examines the historical relations that Japan has had with the West and its Asian neighbors and then places that within a cultural context. It further examines how the modernization of Japan under the Meiji Restoration led to a cultural …

Examining The Impact Of Confucian Values On Leadership Preferences, Andrew Schenck, Merissa Waddey
Examining The Impact Of Confucian Values On Leadership Preferences, Andrew Schenck, Merissa Waddey
Journal of Organizational & Educational Leadership
Efficacy of a leadership approach may be highly dependent upon cultural factors, making additional research in foreign contexts necessary. A methodology was developed to investigate the relationship between Confucian values and leadership preferences. Responses on the Chinese Values Survey (CVS) were compared to those of the Vannsimpco Leadership Survey (VLS) for both Korean (N = 48) and American (N = 47) university respondents. Correlations for both groups revealed a link between Confucian values and hybrid leadership styles. Among Korean faculty, this link was even more pronounced, yielding significant correlations to autocratic-transformational (rs [30] = .513, p …
架空穿越 : 第三種虛構歷史的文學方法, Zidong Xu
架空穿越 : 第三種虛構歷史的文學方法, Zidong Xu
嶺南學報 Lingnan Journal of Chinese Studies

Lingnan Journal of Chinese Studies
