Joyce Y. Butler, earned her Bachelor of Arts from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in English. Her short stories and poems have been published in Green Eggs and Hams, the literary and arts journal of Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She also writes inspirational essays which have been published on the online journal, Purpled Nail. She is currently in the process of compiling a book of inspirational essays. She has been employed as a Legal Assistant for 44 years.

"Of Mist And Memory" is an exploration of what it means to be Irish, catholic and female. The content aims to articulate in poetic language the controls both internal and external that govern an individual. It is a journey from cradle to grave, birth to death that focuses primarily on topics that are the domain of women. However it does not exclude the male gender rather it draws the comparison of how a man can be equally controlled. We’ve all experienced moments that move us in some way, moments that we’ve memorized for the rest of our lives. Some we can’t ever forget, and some we wish we could. Nonetheless, these moments are ingrained in the forever of our minds. My collection, El Momento En Que… is a compilation of snapshots of the life of a fictional character named Graciela, who is fourteen and has experienced the tremendous loss of family, sense of place, and sense of self.
