The Gift Of A Grandmother, Gabriela A. Alonso
The Gift Of A Grandmother, Gabriela A. Alonso
be Still
The Gift of a Grandmother is a personal reflection that represents the valuable, though not always apparent lessons we learn from our family members. I wrote this not only as a tribute to my grandmother, but to honor the experiences that I have shared with her and how they have have shaped me into the person that I am today.
When In Doubt, Chaimae Oualid
When In Doubt, Chaimae Oualid
be Still
In my painting titled "When In Doubt," I explore the concept of uncertainty and the importance of perseverance.
The painting depicts individuals using various transportation methods, each one symbolizing the different paths we take in life. It is a representation of the journey that we all embark upon, full of twists and turns, uncertainties and challenges. Despite the chaos of life, this painting is a reminder to never give up and to keep pushing forward.
For me, "The Teacher" in my life has been my own experiences. I have faced many challenges and obstacles, and each one has taught me …
Entropy, Chaimae Oualid
Entropy, Chaimae Oualid

As an artist, I find myself constantly drawn to the theme of life's unpredictability and how it shapes us. My painting "Entropy" explores these ideas by presenting a complex web of interwoven threads that represent the randomness of life. The imagery of a single body with multiple dispersed people and things, along with the extra floating head, speaks to the chaos and unpredictability that we all experience.
For me, the painting also relates to the idea of "The Teacher" in my own life. I've often found that my greatest lessons have come from unexpected sources, and the randomness of life …

Slices Of Life, Julia M. Franks
University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
In this collection we explore death, loss, joy, love, and life. “Smiles through tears has always been my favorite emotion.” (Steel Magnolias) And that’s what this is, smiles through tears. Everyone is slightly depressed, there are some happy moments in there. A lot of love, and a lot of friendship. Slices of life, little bite sized nuggets of stories I’ve used to mimic my own life.

The mission of medicine is to promote health and save lives. Unfortunately, one’s actions in the medical field may sometimes never be enough to revitalize a patient. From my experience, the magnitude of the loss of a patient's life will never be fully appreciated until witnessed first-hand. This poem serves to illuminate one of the sad truths about medicine and provides inspiration for medical professionals to continue to promote humanity and appreciate the true value of life.

Hey Boo, I’Ve Been Lonely. What’S Good With You?, Khari Johnson-Ricks
Theses and Dissertations
I explore the interlacing macro and micro implications of capitalism on interpersonal relationships. In an attempt to reconcile that problem I use storytelling, painting, and performance to imagine radical futures when love safety and abundance are easier to access.

Literacy Growth: Life And Literacy Experiences, Josue G. Ballesteros-Flores
WRIT: Journal of First-Year Writing
Everyone has a different upbringing when it comes to literacy practices. The process I had to go through just happened to be more challenging. I grew up speaking spanish, but as I became exposed to different environments, different factors affected my literacy practices, such as social media, music, and television. I also grew up and learned from my own previous mistakes.

The following thesis consists of a story collection, the majority of which are flash fiction pieces. The thesis consists of two sections. The Consequences Of Failing: A Memoir, Olivia M. Zajac
The Consequences Of Failing: A Memoir, Olivia M. Zajac
All College Thesis Program, 2016-2019
Failing is part of our human nature. I have never met a person who has never failed at something. Sometimes when I look back at my failures I feel like crying, and other times I laugh at the mistakes that I have made. But no matter the type of failure I have suffered, I have learned one thing. Failures, along with successes, have shaped me into the person I am today. When I fail, I often fall. But each fall is a chance for me to get back up. I don’t plan to stop failing any time soon.

This Modern Life, Nathan Klein
This Modern Life, Nathan Klein
Journal of Undergraduate Research at Minnesota State University, Mankato
For our project, group members explored the theme This Modern Life in its varied interpretations through fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. For my project, the theme This Modern Life was addressed through poetry. The piece I wrote was influenced by my own personal reflections in relation to what this current life has imprinted into me. As a theme, This Modern Life implies little, it left me open to consider contrasting and comparing with other ages, or simply to describe things as they currently are. Since I do not have first hand experience of what I would consider a past "age", I …

De La Inseguridad A La Estabilidad: Como Pablo Neruda Utiliza El Amor Y La Poesia Para Superar El Exilio, Marissa Peck
Honors Theses
This thesis explores exile and its effects on the lives of those who experience it. Pablo Neruda, the great Chilean poet of the 20th century, lived in exile for three years, during which he continued to write and publish his poetry. The negative and positive consequences of exile, such as the loss of identity and the experience of traveling and knowing others, respectively, can be seen clearly in the poetry of Neruda during and after his exile. Exile has a great effect on the personal life of the exiled and this logically is expressed in the exile’s work, especially for …
