Senior Projects Spring 2020

This journal has no owner.
It is simply out there.
It belongs to me, it belongs to you.
It is about personal moments but universal experiences.
What do you see when you drive with the window open?
What can you find in your own house?
What light is on at midnight?

Senior Projects Spring 2019

Senior Project submitted to The Division of Languages and Literature of Bard College.

Bound to Rise is a collection of short stories about people who discover themselves in the “fine drizzly rain” (or smirr, in Scottish lingo) of everyday life. They orient themselves and find some way forward, or they realize they have to. Thematically, it addresses a carnival (the carnivalesque), a demolition derby, multiple fires, photography, drinking, music, an eating disorder, and a birthday cake. It includes one original children’s story written in Russian and translated into English by the author.

They are the people, the garbage, and the repetition of the excess, and my hope of giving them importance. There are roughly 2,500 people in the Orleans Parish Prison on any given day, but the system is bigger than them. It’s more consuming and this is not nearly the amount of napkins it would take to represent the people in even just one state's carceral system. The space …

Love Poems For Photographs And Other Writings, Erin Francis O'Leary

Senior Projects Fall 2016

This project is a collection of writings about photography that vary stylistically from traditional academic essays to more formally imaginative pieces. It is structured around the understanding of art criticism as not solely a passive response to the artworks on which it is focused, but as a productive and valuable artistic gesture that exists independently of its source materials. Art criticism, though concerned primarily with the external, can be understood (also) as an autobiographical effort.
