Developing Pastoral Counseling In The Missionary Church Of Brazil Through The Oms International, Darrell Wayne Mishler
Developing Pastoral Counseling In The Missionary Church Of Brazil Through The Oms International, Darrell Wayne Mishler
Western Evangelical Seminary Theses
The local pastor will have ample opportunity to counsel his flock. This, simply, is a fact. People will bring their problems to him, and the well-being of his ministry-not to mention himself--may depend on the pastor's management of these important times. The "people-helper"-oriented pastor will probably welcome this ministry, even though it has the potential of being a stressful form of shepherding. A goal for this project is to facilitate the development of the pastoral counseling role of the Brazilian local pastor, making him as totally effective a minister as possible. For, to quote Dr. Wayne Oates, "... (the pastor's) …

Worshipers tend to assume that the patterns of worship that they know have been practiced since time immemorial. A little familiarity with liturgical history soon reveals that that is not in fact the case. You in your churches, with your new Lutheran Book of Worship (1978), have inevitably been introduced to some liturgical history as you had to come to terms with new things that were really old things.

(excerpt)

Changing scripture slightly, the editorial states: The decade just ended left behind a great many fresh reminders of why prophets have always had difficulty winning honor on their own turf. 1 The decade just ended differed radically from the social, political and economic predictions made for it. The consequence of such failure is that only the fool plays the prophet in the 1980's. So, taking a lesson from the secular sphere, you will understand why I will …

Biblical, Religious, & Philosophical Studies Educator Scholarship
In the early 1970s, a group of six evangelical women in Chicago began meeting. Their topic of conversation? The emerging secular movement of feminism and what it might mean in a Christian context. These discussions would eventually lead to the Daughters of Sarah, a mid-20th century American journal for the particular audience of Christian feminists. Daughters of Sarah published some of the earliest religious scholarship on the topic.

Reformed Theological Ethics Of Speech Communication, Charles Veenstra
Reformed Theological Ethics Of Speech Communication, Charles Veenstra
Faculty Work Comprehensive List
This project develops and applies a Biblically-based Reformed theological system of ethics for speech communication.
The dissertation includes a review of literature on ethics in speech communication and indicates that: 1) ethics is a significant concern in the field of speech communication, 2) no single normative ethical theory dominates, 3} each normative ethical theory currently advocated faces significant problems, 4) critical pieces applying normative standards are few, 5) little attention is given to ethics of religious speakers or broadcasters, and 6) the normative ethical theory based in Reformed theology, which is the subject of this dissertation, is undeveloped in the …

Narrative-Rhetorical Structures In Revelation: Developing A Thematic Model, J. Webb Mealy
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The rhetoric of narration employed by John in the composition of Revelation was analyzed as a key to interpretation. This analysis was carried out in the context of two test passages, 20:11-21:10 and 6:1-8:5. in the first passage, the single vision-scenes of the Last Judgment (20: 11-15) and the descent of the New Jerusalem (21:1-10) were examined for internal structure and mode of narration, and each was found to be structured in a relatively static, pictorial and descriptive mode rather than a temporal, event-oriented mode. Certain commonly alleged anomalies in the order of the text and other exegetical problems were …
