Cruciform Teaching: Reflections On The Way Of Jesus The Challenge Of The Cross, And Teaching, Ruth Anne Reese
Cruciform Teaching: Reflections On The Way Of Jesus The Challenge Of The Cross, And Teaching, Ruth Anne Reese
The Asbury Journal
Jesus’s way of life was one of humility and utter reliance upon God. This way of life ultimately led to the cross and to God’s raising of Jesus from the dead. Similarly, Christian teachers are also called to a way of humility and dependance upon God as they pursue the vocation of teaching.

The Great Commission: An Exegetical And Theological Study Of Matt 28:16-20 In The Northern Nigeria Context, Vincent K. Sebastine
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
ABSTRACT
Scholars refer to the passage on Matthew 28:16-20 as the “Great Commission”. It concludes the last part of the Gospel of Matthew (26:1-28:20), that is, Jesus’ passion, death and resurrection. In the Great Commission scene – on the mountain in Galilee (Matt 28:16), Jesus speaks to his disciples about his authority, commissions them to make disciples - by baptizing and teaching - and gives them an assurance of his abiding presence. This passage contains several themes – mountain, worship, authority and nations – which relate to the Gospel and other text in the Bible. It is pertinent to note …
The Influence Of Jesus' Approach To People Through "Teaching And Healing" On The Faith Of People In Jesus Christ And On Their Relationship To The Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Armin Danz
Master's Theses
The problem underlying this study is the slow but steady decline in membership in the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Numerous missionary efforts in the past have not been able to change this trend. However, an approach that summarizes the work of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew has not been followed: Namely that Jesus taught people about the Kingdom of God and healed them through prayer. Both church historical sources and modern research suggest that wherever the biblical example of Jesus was followed closely it had a positive influence on the growth of churches. …

Teaching Egyptian History: Some Discipline-Specific Pedagogical Notes, Kerry Muhlestein
Teaching Egyptian History: Some Discipline-Specific Pedagogical Notes, Kerry Muhlestein
Kerry Muhlestein
This paper was originally given at the professional workshop In Search of Egypt's Past: Problems and Perspectives of the Historiography of Ancient Egypt; A North American workshop at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, inaugurating the Journal of Egyptian History, April 23-24, 2008, most of the remaining papers of which will appear in Fascicle 2 of this journal. While many Egyptologists teach Egyptian history, we often fail to carefully conceive of just what this means. Teaching history is more than conveying facts about a time period, it is also teaching how to analyze and (re)construct history. Our classes may often …
Teaching As Formation: The Vision Of Ephesians 4:11-16 And Pedagogical Implications For Routine Teaching Tasks, Joy Ames
The Asbury Journal
This paper seeks to incorporate the vision of teaching in Ephesians 4:11-16 into an understanding of theological education that involves the holistic formation of students. First, a brief exegetical study of Ephesians 4:11-16 is presented in order to accentuate its vision for teaching as formation. Secondly, the task of grading is viewed as a major opportunity for student formation. Thirdly, an emphasis is placed on hearing the voice of the text for today in the task of teaching the text- based exegetical course.
Eden University—Nurturing Life For The Real World, Jordan Guy
Eden University—Nurturing Life For The Real World, Jordan Guy
The Asbury Journal
Teachers are responsible for equipping students with wisdom for survival in the “real world.” One method for fulfilling this task is to trans- port three essential elements from the Garden of Eden into the classroom environment. This means: 1) exposing students to every “tree” in the gar- den, 2) inviting “the serpent” into the classroom in order to make every decision tempting, and 3) reflecting together on the benefits/consequences of every decision. Students and teachers who explore, wrestle with, and reflect on real world problems first in a nurturing community are better equipped to survive and even thrive in the …

Teaching Through Guided Reflection On Short-Term Missions, Jeremy B. Griffin
The Asbury Journal
This paper was presented at Asbury Theological Seminary on March 14, 2014, at the Interdisciplinary Colloquium. This work examines the three sections of a short-term missions trip: pre-trip, during the trip, and post-trip. These sections have unique opportunities for teaching, and each must be navigated with different types of teaching and guided reflection.
Ever Learning, Ever Loving: Augustine On Teaching As Ministry, Ronnie P. Campbell Jr.
Ever Learning, Ever Loving: Augustine On Teaching As Ministry, Ronnie P. Campbell Jr.
Eleutheria: John W. Rawlings School of Divinity Academic Journal
While most remember Augustine (354-430 AD) as theologian, exegete, and philosopher, the purpose of this essay is to consider Augustine’s legacy and ministry as teacher. After his conversion (386 AD), Augustine’s views on teaching took a turn. His theological convictions thus set the course for his views on teaching throughout the rest of his life. It is to such views on teaching that this essay seeks to examine. Therefore this essay will wrestle through Augustine’s views on the role of the teacher and the learner and the link between the two, his theological basis for teaching, and some of the …

Coaching Pastors Of Faith Evangelical Church Of The Philippines Churches For Church Growth, Brent Hunter Burdick
Coaching Pastors Of Faith Evangelical Church Of The Philippines Churches For Church Growth, Brent Hunter Burdick
ATS Dissertations
Research has shown that one effective means of improving leader effectiveness in business and education is coaching. Coaching involves asking questions, exploring options, providing guidance, and training in skills. Ministry is enhanced by coaching. This research explored the impact coaching six pastors in the Faith Evangelical Church of the Philippines churches had on the numerical and spiritual growth of the churches they pastor. The study focused on the key leadership factors of preaching, personal spiritual maturity, and multiplication of small groups plus two survey-determined factors. The hypothesis was that as the pastor advanced in leadership skills and effectiveness in these …
