The Relationship Between Psalm 22 And The Passion Narrative, Harvey D. Lange
The Relationship Between Psalm 22 And The Passion Narrative, Harvey D. Lange

The author suggests that Jesus' use of Ps. 22 in His cry of dereliction from the cross is best understood as an example of typological rather than rectilinear fulfillment of an Old Testament word.

New And Old In Mark 16:1-8, Robert H. Smith
New And Old In Mark 16:1-8, Robert H. Smith
Concordia Theological Monthly
One of the most difficult pericopes in the New Testament is the Easter Gospel, Mark 16:1-8, because it reports no appearance of the risen Lord, and ends with the strange words, " ... and they said nothing co any one, for they were afraid." In this article, the author summarizes and evaluates the chief solutions chat have been proposed, and then offers his own solution. On the basis of his study of the message of the Gospel and of other pertinent Biblical materials, he finds that the conclusion reflects a real appreciation of the joyful Gospel message. He also argues …

A Study Of Some Lucan Parables In The Light Of Oriental Life And Poetic Style, Kenneth Ewing Bailey
A Study Of Some Lucan Parables In The Light Of Oriental Life And Poetic Style, Kenneth Ewing Bailey
Doctor of Theology Dissertation
Throughout the history of the church the parables of Jesus have received considerable attention from biblical interpreters. Yet the cultural milieu and the poetry of the parables are aspects of parabolic studies that have not been adequately treated. The culture reflected in the dominical parables is that of first century Palestine. While the externals of the Palestinian scene pertinent to the parables have been analyzed with precision, the internal aspects of personal relationship and attitude have been imprecisely discerned. A more precise delineation of the Oriental culture that informs the text of four major Lucan parables is the first task …
An Analysis Of The Structure And Traditions Of Zechariah 7 And 8, John Henry Miller
An Analysis Of The Structure And Traditions Of Zechariah 7 And 8, John Henry Miller
Doctor of Theology Dissertation
The problem to which this dissertation shall be addressed is the lack of a methodologically consistent investigation of Zechariah's possible indebtedness to and adaptation of Israel's heritages the failure of most scholars to analyze correctly the structure of Zechariah 7-8 (and to relate chapters l through 6 to them); and the absence of a careful delineation of the purpose for which Zechariah integrated tradition and structure in proclaiming his message to post-exilic Judah. Many scholars have paid no heed whatsoever to material from Israel's heritage which may be in Zechariah 7-8. Those who have made such studies have had either …

The Theology Of Divine Anger In The Psalms Of Lament, Thomas Dixon Hanks

From our survey of the controversy over divine wrath in the history of theology it should be evident that we are not dealing with a matter of minor importance but one of great significance for the whole structure of theology and basic to our understanding of biblical teaching.
