Through art exhibitions in Beijing, China and Richmond, Virginia, Reviving project 01 aims to help promote/ revive a craft technique in Qinghai, China that is disappearing due to the urbanized surroundings.

American artist were invited to collaborate with people from Qinghai to make new pieces incorporating original crafted pieces.

Although food systems and design may seem like they do not have much in common, design is as essential to the human experience as food. Herbert Simon is quoted as saying, "Everyone designs who devises courses of action aimed at changing existing situations into preferred ones."

This view positions design to help address current issues around behavior and culture in local food systems. In this paper, we analyze the approaches of various common and emerging models in the local food movement through several design lenses. Four international alumni find a common language between their RISD education and their own rich, evolving cultures. Ng'endo Mukii 05 FAV of Kenya, Anjali Mody 09 ID of India, and architecture/design team Eduardo Sucre BArch 01 and Karina (Schrappe) Sucre BArch 00 of Brazil returned to their native countries to find the cross-cultural lessons and adaptability learned at RISD have proven critical to their success back home.
