This thesis examines the ability of the sustainably designed building to alter occupant behaviors using LEED for New Construction and Major Renovation, Green Building Rating System™ as a standard of measure. A cross sectional survey compares the pro-environmental behaviors, intentions, environmental knowledge, and pro-environmental orientation of occupants working in a traditionally designed building and occupants working in a LEED-NC certified building located on the University of Nebraska - Lincoln Campus. While there is a visible increase in the pro-environmental variables for occupants working in the sustainable environment, data analysis indicates that these differences are not statistically significant for any of …

At the height of its time, Aksarben was the best place in omaha to go for entertainment and social gatherings. The large space allowed for many events such as concerts, world championships, road shows, and the most popular, horse races. Unfortunately in the 1990s, there was a decline in such attractions, particulary in horse racing, and Aksarben’s ownership went to Aksarben future trust.

The following proposal is a design contract for the master planning, development and interior design services for the building on the corner 8th and P in the Haymarket District in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Haymarket District is an active, vibrant, historical area within the city of Lincoln and draws in people of all ages and cultures to this neighborhood. Local gift shops, restaurants, bars, and small businesses culminate this area. To attract more people to this district, I propose to add a boutique salon/spa, a boutique retail store, office space, and loft-style apartments.

Local governments are beginning to require new, privately constructed and funded buildings to be “green” buildings. Instead of creating their own, locally-derived definitions of green buildings, many municipalities are adopting an existing private standard created by members of the building industry: LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). This Article explains and assesses the privately promulgated LEED standards. It argues that the translation of LEED standards, which were intended to be voluntary, into law raises several theoretical and practical problems. Specifically, private green building ordinances that rely on LEED do not ensure a reduction in the negative local environmental impacts …

Newnan's Original Public Library Celebrates Grand Reopening

The original facility in 1904 reportedly epitomized early 20th century neoclassical architecture which is marked by symmetrical paired brick pilasters across the facade and evenly-spaced, paneled and stained columns in the interior. Trinity Episcopal Cathedral has over forty large stained glass windows that range in age from the 15 to the 20th Century. The medieval windows were produced in England and Germany, while the more contemporary windows were produced by such prominent studios as those directed by Willet, Connick, Tiffany, Heaton, Young, and Burnham. The more contemporary windows are of considerable artistic and historical interest, but there is very little information available about them. The article features the rededication of the Tifton-Tift County Public Library in Georgia on November 1, 2009 after three years of renovation. A new building was reportedly built up and 1,830 square feet of space was added. It is stated that the old circular desk was divided for children's use and for reference and that the library features a new radio frequency identification system (RFID) system for circulation functions and a board room with Internet, kitchenette and restrooms.
