This dissertation looks at the environmental benefits of 3 key areas in relation to interior design: Energy, Water and Air; energy efficient lighting, water efficient plumbing fixtures and the effects of interior materials and finishes on indoor air quality.

Qualitative research methodology: Extensive literature review of texts available on these topics, and also of the relevant building codes and environmental legislation applicable to Irish interior designers and the built environment.

It is important to understand the different types of house museums and their purposes before we offer information about our own house museum.

There are three basic types of house museums: Documentary, Representative, Decorative. Each type has its purpose and distinct interpretive thrust.

Having very little information about the Felts family, it is impossible to present our museum as the documentary Felts House. A much more realistic interpretive goal is as a representative 1815 Log House. Interior Design Program: Faculty Scholarly and Creative Activity

Lincoln, Nebraska, resident Eloise Andrews Kruger began collecting 1:12 scale miniatures in the late 1930s. Over the course of fifty years, her dedication to acquiring historically accurate pieces led to the development of one of the most impressive miniature collections in the country. Ms. Kruger’s collection of miniature furniture, decorative arts and accessories, and architectural elements represents nearly all the major English and American design styles from the Renaissance through the Early Modern period. The collection includes the work of top miniature artists including Eric Pearson, Eugene Kupjack, Bob Carlisle, Warren Dick, Mell Prescott, and Betty Valentine.

The main focus of this Capstone has been exploratory—self-educational. After having learned, during the course of my studies in interior design, about the methodology of biophilic design (literally, “life-loving”)—which deals with the human psychological affinity for the natural world and attempting to reconcile that with the built environment, in order to create spaces that protect both body and mind—I wanted to experiment within that philosophy, to build my own biophilic design skills. Political Renewal And Architectural Revival During The French Regency: Oppenord's Palais-Royal, Jean-François Bedard

Author links Oppenord's 'revivalist' attitude to the politics of his patron, Philippe II, duc d'Orleans, regent of France between 1715 and 1723. The author uses eight drawings by Oppenord, acquired by the Carnavalet in 1999, as well as others known, to show how the Palais-Royal and its apartments were transformed to be a surrogate Versailles. Includes a checklist of drawings and prints by and after Oppenord for the Palais-Royal (1713-1723).

The article presents information on academic libraries that can create a user-centered learning space for library users with limited resources. It notes that students desire user-centered facilities that encourage learner participation and social engagement. It reveals the findings of an online open-ended survey which investigated the needs of library users. Information is given on some of the ways accomplished at minimum cost including, reuse furniture, reuse more furniture, rearranging furniture, and adding some color to the facility.
