The structure of this thesis relies on the physical locations of Mme. de Pompadour. Although the chapters are roughly chronological, beginning with her arrival at Versailles in 1745 and ending with her death in 1764, this work makes no attempt to comprehensively chronicle the entirety of her involvement in the decorative arts. Rather, it focuses on several specific aspects of her patronage, with the goal of illuminating her social position and public image, and how she worked to control the two. Educators’ perceptions influence academic protocols regarding the level at which evidence-based design is introduced to design students. Evidence-based design, a research methodology based on quantitative and qualitative inquiry that informs design decisions, permeated healthcare design to the point that the two are almost synonymous (Hamilton and Watkins, 2009; Nussbaumer, 2009). As this research based approach spreads throughout the profession, multiple specialty areas in architecture and interior design adopt evidence-based design into their methodologies (Hamilton and Watkins, 2009). Trinity Episcopal Cathedral has over forty large stained glass windows that range in age from the 15 to the 20th Century. The medieval windows were produced in England and Germany, while the more contemporary windows were produced by such prominent studios as those directed by Willet, Connick, Tiffany, Heaton, Young, and Burnham. The more contemporary windows are of considerable artistic and historical interest, but there is very little information available about them. It is important to understand the different types of house museums and their purposes before we offer information about our own house museum.

There are three basic types of house museums: Documentary, Representative, Decorative. Each type has its purpose and distinct interpretive thrust.

Having very little information about the Felts family, it is impossible to present our museum as the documentary Felts House. A much more realistic interpretive goal is as a representative 1815 Log House. Author links Oppenord's 'revivalist' attitude to the politics of his patron, Philippe II, duc d'Orleans, regent of France between 1715 and 1723. The author uses eight drawings by Oppenord, acquired by the Carnavalet in 1999, as well as others known, to show how the Palais-Royal and its apartments were transformed to be a surrogate Versailles. Includes a checklist of drawings and prints by and after Oppenord for the Palais-Royal (1713-1723).

So began the instructions for "Charrette: A 48 hour Design Challenge" hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University's School of the Arts in Qatar. ("Charrette," 2007.) Combining sustainable design solutions with issues of human rights, an experiment in design education was created to challenge students to improve the quality of life for some of the world's most disadvantaged workers.

The architectural integrity of the house continues to be impaired by past and on-going alterations. Window and door changes along with major interior reconstruction have altered the house considerably from its original appearance. It is the addition on the southwest corner, however, that is so intrusive as to permanently compromise the house's historic architecture. For this reason, I am recommending denial of the application for historic designation.

The house at 895 7th Street is a two-story, hipped-roof box with 1/1 windows and a central entrance. This house type was built locally in the first decade of the 20th century and is notable for its exterior simplicity and lack of decoration. Removal of the one-story porch across the front, replacement of the original front door, and enclosure of the rear porch are major alterations.

Arcata has several examples of this house type, but only this one and the house at the northwest corner of 15th and I Streets have retained their original character. The house directly across 7th …

The paper examines the physical layout of two rooms, one in the upper floor Joseph Smith's store, and the other in the attic of the Nauvoo Temple, for administering what is called the Mormon temple endowment. In both cases only temporary modifications were made to the interior rooms, using canvas partitions which were later removed. The text describes the appearance and arrangement of these modified interior spaces, based on contemporary historical sources, because the original buildings were completely destroyed during the 1800s.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the functions: ordinances, meetings, programs of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the development of the physical plant. Inversely, the effect of Church house forms on the development of Church function was investigated. It was found that:
1. In Latter-day Saint Church development, form has always followed function.
2. Function has influenced form to a great extent. Priesthood, meeting, or other program needs are a prime factor in changing the form and design of Church buildings.
