Wellsville City is a small, rural community seeking to provide a high quality of life for its citizens. A valuable amenity to accomplish this goal is a trail system, as part of a regional greenway network. Greenways are interconnected linkages between community hubs or open spaces, destinations, parks, neighborhoods and public lands. Trails are a part of greenways, allowing recreational access through the corridors connecting these community hubs. The citizens of Wellsville desire the benefits that are provided by a trails or greenway system.

Changes in Lone Peak Conservation Nursery customer profiles cause state nursery leaders to question what their products are being used for and how trends in native plant use are changing the market for Utah native plants. The Utah native plant market is changing as interest in native plants is expanding to meet new conservation objectives, oftentimes in urban settings. This study fills a need for documentation of the issues and concerns related to planning recreational trails along irrigation canal rights-of-way through interviews with canal company officials and research of related literature. While this study provides valuable information for recreation planners and cities involved in the planning and development of these canal trails within northern Utah, it also has a universal application that will aid anyone interested in taking on the often complex task of developing a canal trail.

The Wild and Scenic Rivers Act is the nation's principal tool for accomplishing river conservation. Congress intended for the Act to apply to rivers regardless of ownership of adjacent lands, but efforts to implement the Act on rivers bordered by private property have met with limited success. This paper presents the underlying issues related to private land applications, explores the range of ideas and opinions existing among river conservation experts, agency river planners and others regarding how to work with these issues, identifies areas of general concurrence and least agreement, and makes recommendations for future private land applications of the …

In Utah, the number of farms has been steadily decreasing since the 1930's while farm size has grown and mechanization increased (Utah Agricultural Statistics, 1981). The "family farm" is beginning to disappear as larger farms become more economical (McCorkle, Jr., 1981). Due primarily to this trend toward more intensive land use, habitat for the ring-necked pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) is on the decline (Kellert, 1981). In addition, changes which have occurred in crop production since 1950 have not favored pheasant production (Nish, 1973). The purpose of this thesis was to determine the criteria necessary for an analysis of site suitability for locating a marina at Bear Lake. Once criteria were defined and pertinent resource factors collected, a method to analyze the criteria was utilized to aid in the selection of the best site for locating this marina. Various methods to analyze site suitability were evaluated and the pros and cons of the chosen approach, a cluster analysis of existing resource transect data with hypothetical transect criteria, were discussed. The purpose of this research was to examine the relationship of two approaches to visual assessment of landscape--the qualitative descriptive inventory and the theoretically-based empirical perceptual preference approach. Three levels of landscape visual units based on bio-physical similarities (landscape units, setting units, and waterscape units) were identified in a marsh (CUtler Reservoir, Cache County , Utah), and its tributary streams. Color slide photographs were taken from five of the visual units. These slides were rated on a 5- point scale by panels of judges for the expression of four perceptual variables--coherence, complexity, mystery, and legibility. The same slides were rated …
