How the interior environment affects autistic people has been studied in settings such as education and healthcare. However, significant work has not been done in evaluating the effect of prison interiors on autistic inmates who may be hypersensitive, especially to light and sound. The purpose of this study was to determine how autistic inmates cope in a noisy, crowded environment that is not designed for them and that they cannot control. This qualitative research used grounded theory to interview five autistic inmates at a medium-security state prison for men in the US to find out their lived experience in prison. …

This thesis traces the evolution of doikayt—the Bundist principle of hereness—from its origins in the Jewish Labor Bund to contemporary applications in North America. Rooted in a refusal of both assimilation and nationalist escape, doikayt emphasizes cultivating safety, solidarity, and belonging through collective responsibility rather than territorial claims.

Building on this foundation, the exploration situates hereness within a settler-colonial context, where ethical dwelling is complicated by Indigenous dispossession. In Georgia, 37.4% of women report experiencing physical violence by an intimate partner. Low-lying deltas worldwide are extremely vulnerable to sea-level rise. As the risks of climate-induced flooding become increasingly clear, the thirst for infrastructure-driven adaptation increases. This highlights a patent need to understand the impacts of engineering adaptation solutions, especially those targeting built structures such as dykes and sluices, on farmers from a bottom-up, farmer-centred perspective. In these transactions, I offered to repair broken things for a trade-in-kind payment. Through the brief relationship between owner and designer, each interaction suggests that an object is almost never entirely obsolete despite its perceived obsolescence.
